Mertensia virginica
Today my very good friend, @melodyrussell and I went exploring all around the Jacks Fork River. We did so not only to get out of our respective houses for once, but so I could satisfy my craving for spring wildflowers. We saw so many different ones in so many different places. Last summer I did a series on Ozark Wildflowers. Consider this the beginning of 2018's Ozark Wildflowers Series.
This amazing flower is the Bluebell. They like growing in moist woods and low slopes along streams and rivers. They are found throughout the Ozarks.
Melody and I found them at a river access named Bacher's and at what we call "Low Water" at the Prongs of the Jacks Fork. The forest floor was literally covered with these flowers. It was amazing.

Bluebells can be found blooming from March to June. Their buds start out pink and change to light blue as they bloom!!! That just blows my mind. I love it.
These spring plants grow up to 2 feet tall. Their leaves can be huge! Up to 6" long! We saw one that was probably bigger than that today. I should have gotten a photo of it!
Thanks for checking this out! I'll be posting more about Native Ozark Wildflowers over the next few days and weeks. Keep an eye out!
I love these bluebells. I have a small batch of them in my New North garden. Your photos are just lovely!
