Amarcord of packaged ice creams: return to the '80s and' 90s

The people of the Net have done it. No, poverty has not been defeated by way of likes , Justin Bieber has not been expelled from the US as a petition to the White House and Miley Cyrus has not hung the hammer on the nail. The people of the Net succeeded in what seemed to be a losing battle at the start: to revive the Winner Taco , one of the iconic ice cream of the 90s produced by Algida. A virtual mobilization with more than 11,000 shares, which has driven the company to ride a shrewd form of marketing: the nostalgia operation . And so, a couple of weeks ago, Algida announced with great pomp the return of the late ice cream , complete with a bear from the spot in tow. But what are the cult of the summersthe '80s and' 90s , whose disappearance is a pain that time has not been able to heal?

THE ICE CREAM MARKET TWENTY YEARS AGO
It may seem strange, but the packed ice cream market in the '80s and' 90s was an all-Italian excellence, not without twists due to the close competition between the largest companies. Three main actors: Motta , Algida and Eldorado , the latter then incorporated into Algida in 1998. A war that was played with original spots, cartoon characters and colored signs, all to conquer the little consumer and tear exclusive distributions with bars. Below, some of the most famous specimens.

1.Winner Taco (Algida): we start from the most current, that ice cream resurrected to make Facebook users happy. Launched in 1997 and withdrawn in 2003, it is a vanilla and caramel sandwich, enclosed between two crispy wafers sealed with chocolate. The name, of course, derives from the shape of Mexican tacos. It was a great commercial success, thanks to the spot featuring anthropomorphic polar bears.

2.Pink Panther (Motta) and Dr Strabik (Eldorado): the war of the cream and strawberry sticks . On the one hand the cute cartoon feline and on the other a little man, with eyes recreated by chewing-gum sweets.

3.Piedone (Eldorado): competitor's stick of the Pink Panther and the favorite of Eldoleo, the lion testimonial of the company. It was also produced with cream and strawberry with caramel streaks.

4.Grandpa's Cup (Motta): it is one of the most bought and long-lasting cups of all time. Launched in 1955, it is still a great cult: it will be for that unmistakable taste of coffee or the packaging, desired by little girls to enrich the collection of tableware for the dolls' house.

5.Blob (Toseroni-Eldorado): a cream cone covered with a solid icing of hazelnuts and chocolate, a cult between the '70s and' 80s. It was one of Toseroni's workhorses, a company that later became Eldorado.

6.Calippo Fizz (Algida): the calippo does not need too many presentations, also because he came back in vogue a couple of years ago with the viral interview with the girls of Ostia of the "calippo e bira". This version of the sparkling coca-cola was very popular.

Maxibon (Motta): to the cry of " Du gust is megl that one " - the debut of Stefano Accorsi - this sandwich with vanilla and hazelnuts was a true craze for summers nighties. On the one hand, biscuit and other chocolate chips, he was able to put all the types of consumers in agreement.

  1. Cucciolone (Eldorado): the biscuit par excellence, since 1979 knows no crisis. Based on cocoa, vanilla and zabaglione, on the surface are shown the funny vignettes of Eldoleo, then replaced by the Algida cow in 2009.

9.Champions Cup (Motta): still on sale, it is a simple cocoa half cocoa and half vanilla, designed for the summer snack of children, given the small size and simple taste.

Solero (Algida): a very refreshing milk and citrus stick, produced since 1995 and launched in different variants. Among the many, the Solero Shots: fruit ice balls, distributed in plastic packs.

  1. Twister (Eldorado-Algida): a stick braid, a hybrid between ice lolly and ice cream with a unique spiral arrangement. Variable tastes, from strawberry to vanilla through chocolate, in 2008 an anise version was soon removed from the market.

  2. Cone Brek (Motta): a vanilla and chocolate wafer-cup, with a decidedly 80s look and a generous tuft of soft cream. Disappeared for a short time, Motta recently re-proposed it for a never-ending success.

Cornetto (Algida) and Maxicono (Motta): the real ice-cream war has been played on the front of the cones. On the one hand the legendary "heart of cream" of Algida, on the other the sportivissima alternative Motta with lots of volleyball players. From the various tastes, they are still on the crest of the wave.

  1. Icicle Magic (Eldorado) and Smurf (Vari): also the world of ice lolly has been particularly active in the past. Among the many, the proposal Eldorado with ice outside and ice cream inside - from strawberry to fior di latte - to aniseed, produced by many companies and soon became "Smurf" for the blue color.
