CHICAGO CULTURAL CENTER - Massive op-art paintings by Scott Stack.

Ok so one of my artist friends shared one of these paintings last weekend mentioning that after viewing these, she felt smarter lol.

I can see why this stuff is nuts. These paintings literally move on you as you look at them. You can probably get a feeling of that by these photographs.

Look at how they vibrate.

The human eye cant process the abrupt alteration from black to white, so it causes a flickering effect on the brain when viewing these works.

Almost functioning like a Magic Eye, where you don't need to cross your eyes and hold the book up to your nose, instead you just relax and let these things screw with your perception lol.

Look at how certain shapes stand out when you scroll the webpage browser up and down.

This is what they look like up- close.

Here is a different series of his paintings, using a triangle motif. Observe how your brain interprets the shapes that appear to you. Its certainly funky.

They are all made using some kind of trowel to spread the paint. You can see the thick paint cantelevering off the ends of the canvas.

Look at the gray lines that are created by the merging of the two complementary colors, red and green.
