Finally, John Obi Milel, captain of the Nigerian National team has decided to call it quit with international football after representing his country with 88 caps.

Mikel stated during the current AFCON edition that he might be retiring after the competition with the sole and major reason of giving opportunities to younger players to prove their worth. WHAT HONORABLE DEED.

The former Chelsea midfielder made his debut for the Super Eagles in 2005 after starring for the Under 17 and Under 20 sides. He has since played two World Cup tournaments, 2014 and 2018 and has also featured in five African Cup of Nations tournaments, winning 1 and ending up with four bronze medals.

Mikel was very influential in their 2013 African Cup of Nations triumph, captaining his team to their third continental title and playing a very vital part in midfield. The midfielder is known to possess a calm nature in midfield and spreads passes beautifully.

Injury prevented the midfielder from participating fully for his country as he had to watch them obtain painful defeat at the hands of Algeria.

Nigeria would definitely miss John Mikel Obi but his legacy lives on.
