😂My Life's Journey - Bathroom Renovations Funny Stories Part 2 - Let Me Do This😂

in palnet •  5 years ago  (edited)

Hi there my amazing Steemaian friends. I hope you all are having an amazing day and a great start to your week. As I am getting close to the final reveal for the bathroom renovations my father and I completed I still have one more "funny" story to share with you guys. Well, basically, like the last story it is funny now, but it was not as funny when it was all happening. If you have read the last "funny" story I wrote about you would know what I mean? I am laughing about it now, but when it was all happening no so much. Yeah, not so much at all.

If you missed the last "funny" story you catch up by clicking here.

So What Happened This Time?

Well, here is what happened. When you are placing the new tiles down there is a specific way to do so. And, there is a specific way why certain things have to be done this way. You really want to follow this protocol or you might get in trouble down the road. One important protocol you need to follow is to listen to more experienced people when it comes to laying down the tiles. They have a specific way of doing things for a reason.

One of the specific rules when placing new tiles is you need to place the tiles going up to the side of the wall first. Every single professional I talked to said the same to me. Do the sides first, and then lay down the bottom ones. That is just a standard way of doing it for a reason. Later I will explain to you why this is important?

My Father's Plan

Well, my father's plan was to ignore the professionals and just go ahead and put the bottom tiles first. Again, like in the last story, I got the TRUST ME SON speech, and AGAIN I budged and let my dad go ahead with his plan. But, at that time I did not know my father had a "smelly" alternative motive why he wanted to put the bottom tiles first. It was not until I saw this face I realized what his alternative motive was? I think you will realize soon what it was?

I think his face explained to you what his alternative motive was for placing the bottom tiles first? He wanted to put back his throne as soon as possible. He was tired of going to the Caffe Bar to the bathroom in the morning. lol He wanted his THRONE back and there was no point of arguing there. And, honestly, I don't blame him at all. Going to the Caffe Bar every time you need to get the bathroom was a drag to say at least.

Now you can see in the picture we were already putting the top tiles as well. I want to pay attention to the back wall and the right side where there were two tiles missing. Soon I was about to find out why you should never put the bottom tiles first? So let me tell you why?

Let Me Do This Story

As you can recall from the last funny story I told you on how my dad only used pointers on the half of the wall while putting the new lair of cement on the wall. Well, as you saw in the picture we are about halfway where the wall started to "run away" from me and I had to use a lot of tile glue to make it all even and in level. So what did that mean?

Well, our tiles were heavy and big, to begin with, but with all the glue on them, they were even heavier. And, honestly, it took some strength to pick them up and glue to the wall. Even for me. Now for some reason, my father wanted to place one even though I told him with all the glue on them they are heavy. But, he gave me the "you think I can't do it" speech combined with "let me show you" speech and from there I watched everything in slow motion. I kid you not guys. In slowest motion ever.

He picked up the tile, started lifting it up, and right before he was going to place it he dropped it. I honestly watched that tile fall for 10 sec even though it was 1 meter away from the floor. I mean it could off not been slower than it was. I watched it falling on the tiles below and breaking two of them. I can still hear the cracking sound in my head even today. lol

I honestly, stormed out of the house, I was mad to say at least. My father realized what happened and just got real quiet. He knew he made a mistake and I was rightfully angry. So I went outside to blow off some steam. Came back 10 minutes later and had to dig out two broken tiles with a drill and place the new ones instead. To be honest, I did not talk to him for the rest of the day. lol

Lessons To Be Learned

So, my amazing Steemain friends, the first lesson is to not put the bottom the tiles first of course. I am honestly laughing about his now, but when it happened, I was not a happy camper. We worked so hard on finishing this bathroom and this meant we had to take 3 steps back. But, now when I look at it my friends it honestly describes what life is really? I mean isn't this what life is really like as well? Sometimes you will have to take STEPS BACK in order to reach your goal. Some "tiles" will get broken, you will get mad, frustrated, but if you keep pushing sooner or later you will reach your goal. So my message to you my friends is to never quit and of course to ALWAYS put the top tiles first....lool

Thank you all for reading, have a beautiful day, much love,

Sounds frustrating but funny in hindsight, haha.
Home improvement can be difficult, and when you are learning, mistakes will be made. I know from experience, haha!
Have a great day!

And, it was frustrating at the moment when it was happening. But, now I laugh about it. 😃

O yes, mistakes will be made, especially when you are an amateur like I was when it comes to renovations. And, yes, it is all about the learning. 👌

Thank you for a great comment. Have a blessed day. 😃

Oh my goodness!!!! I don't know whether to laugh or cry with you, lol As I read your post I can just envision the scene...not a pretty one. Something about going to the cafe bathroom.... funny in hindsight, oh my. It's tough working with family, especially a parent as they always know what is "best" to do (?) You have such a wonderful spirit, a joyous attitude and a forgiving heart. Love this post, thank you for sharing @awakentolife. Looking forward to the big reveal! :) Blessings my friend!

Hahaha well you can laugh about it now. But, when it happened probably cry with me. 🤣🤣

It is tough to work with family sometimes no doubt. But working with them is what made this renovation special. Even these moments no matter how frustrated I got in some moments. And, I got frustrated a lot. Lol

Thank you for such lovely coming from the heart comment. The big reveal is coming in one of my next posts. I wish you a beautiful day. ♥️

Oh dear, it's not easy doing renovations and then having to be diplomatic with a parent, who always knows better not so;)
But you will get there and have a laugh once it's all done and you have a sparkling new bathroom!
Good on you for still seeing the funny side of it:)

It was not easy to say at least. Especially since I don't have any experience with the bathroom renovations and I was basically learning all as we went along.

And, yes, sometimes it is not easy to get on the same page with the parents which is normal. But, we got it done and soon I will be sharing the final reveal post. 👌

Well if I ever do tiling I now know not to do the bottom ones first

Its good that you can look back on this and laugh now :)

Well, yes, it is an important thing to do because you can always drop a hammer or basically anything and it can damage the bottom tiles. So, yes, go with sides and up first for sure. 👌

Yep, laugh about it now.. 🤣🤣🤣

Or I will go with plan C in the house we buy when I retire make sure I like the tiles in the house I buy so I don’t need to do them lol

I hope your weekend has gone well

So, I have to ask ---> how did the people at the cafe feel about you all traipsing down to use their bathroom a dozen times a day? I mean it's not like they aren't going to notice after a while.

Well, I live in a small city, and thus caffe are basically my neighbors. So they did not mind at all. But, I am sure they got tired of the noise from our renovation. 🤣🤣🤣

Heck I got tired of it. I am sure they did as well. 🤣🤣

Well, that's a lot friendlier than here. Here, some restaurants put up signs that say "Restrooms for customers only." Others make you ask at the register for a key. It used to be only service stations (gas stations) would do that. I don't know what's happened to our culture. It upsets me.

I'm glad the milk of human kindness is still alive somewhere in the world. It's really scarce here these days. Witness the El Paso shooting yesterday. What makes someone decide to get up in the morning, drive 10 hours and shoot 46 total strangers with an AK-47 ... killing 20 of them?

What in the name of God have we become in this country? (Sorry for the rant.)

Well, it is such a small town here. Everyone knows each other. People do help each other when needed but not all of course. Like everywhere there are people who want you to help them when they needed but are "busy" when you need some help.

Well, I think greed has eaten people's brains, my friend. They fail to remember they can't take any of the stuff with them when they part this world.

When it comes to shooting I am not surprised with anything anymore. Not only in U.S. It is happening everywhere. I bet even God sometimes asks himself why in the heck did he give us free will?
