"Wife is wife, Volga is a misstress..."

in palnet •  5 years ago  (edited)

Near us lives an old couple, who owns one car only. Not so strange, you will think. But it's quite extraordinary. It was made in giant Russia - far away from our tiny Slovenia. This 80 years old man, the proud owner of the Volga GAZ 24 fell in love with it way before March 1979, when he bought it. How many miles he drove with it in all these years he doesn't know, because the counter resets after 1000 kilometers are driven.

Russians weren't joking when they made this practical and comfortable car. They made it huge, almost 5 meters long, with robust chassis, and it's hight - just perfect for Russian country roads.

It was almost the road tank with its 2,4-liter engine, with 70kW and approximately 1.5 ton of weight.

I could go on and on, how modern was this car when it was built, but I think the following two photos will make you interested to browse a bit more about its history.

It is old ... but old is gold ... and this red car looks very good :)
I'm sure soon it is worth more than it is now :)

For the person who owns it, it means the world. He even said, that when he was younger, he was afraid to go far with it, but now, he would be able to go anywhere with it. A true spark in his eyes when he talks about his mistress. 😊

Oh cool. I had never seen one before!

Oh, the Gaz(all of them that I knew of!!) were pure luxury or executive cars. They certainly paid big bucks for that! Even way back, they have always been expensive and only for the well-heeled.

I love the old cars of the world. Thank you for showing it!

Exactly. They paid a lot of money to get it. Without any help from the banks. They earned it with the hard work, with long night shifts by working with wood.

And yes, it was a luxury car, with tons of equipment which we now take as for granted, and outdated. If course it's old, and not so comfortable as we are used to now, but it has its charm.

Thank you for your appreciation.
