Today is my first day on PALnet, at least offiically. Of course, since it's built on Steem there's a lot of overlap, but it's still a new experience (and a return to the old-school Steemit UI, though it's a little more bearable because PALnet is powered by a token, so things like the Trending and Hot tag are sorted by PAL tokens rather than Steem votes.
I'm not sure how effective this will be in the long run, and there's the usual predominance of PAL-related posts just as Steemit has a lot of Steem related posts, but I do have to say that the trending and promoted sections certainly are less obnoxious in terms of their content.
I'm looking forward to this as an addition to Steem and a way to get involved in larger network more organically, and we'll see how it goes.

For now there a lot less people and the initial distribution of coins was handled in a different way. If nothing else you can collect a few different points from not changing much.
Did you claim your pal coins from the airdrop on https://steem-engine.com? Under wallet in the upper left should be a blue icon you click and can sign in with steem connect. After a few moments you fresh the page and now you got a bunch of coins. I’m not sure if it’s still going on but worth a try. Its where I got the bulk of my coins.

Yeah, I figured that I'd join in. Plus, though I'm not particularly active with PAL and MSP as a community, I do value what they do for Steem and engaging with them is a signal of support.

I haven't dug too far into it myself, but I've been including the palnet tag on stuff I would have been posting to the blockchain anyway via dTube and Actifit and I'm liking it so far. Having a less top-heavy distribution of voting power is making me feel more positive about the economy than regular Steem, and the positive energy from all the enthusiasm and excitement associated with the new thing is nice.

Palnet reminds me a lot of the original steem, and it seems that the noise to signal ratio is much better there
