This is both great news and terrible news. On the one hand these recent events make a very strong case for the need of an uncensorable medium, and of course we know that blockchain is just the right answer, but at the same time, it really does shed a light into what's truly going on in the public discourse. True power can only be kept if you control the information, and that is precisely where the battle is being fought.

So, this latest crackdown on free speech, the hundreds of content creators on youtube who are waking up to the fact that their business is no more, is nothing that should surprise us at all. Yes, I've seen this coming for a long time, and for the life of me, I can't believe people are still surprised when it happens.

It may sometimes seem futile to have conversations with others on the very idea of free speech, because there are plenty of people who simply don't understand its value. But the truth is that it's not futile, and it's certainly the only way we can truly keep any sort of grip of our democratic systems. If all information is controlled and filtered, then the whole notion that we are making choices is just comical.

Should you be doing something right now? Well, yes you should. As a matter of fact @oracle-d is running a bounty at this very moment to motivate people to go spread the good news. Hey @contentcreator, do not worry, there's yet hope... Have you heard of STEEM? - Use your favorite pitch, use the medium you prefer, but take today's events as a bullish sign, because it is.

As a matter of fact @theycallmedan is also sponsoring a similar bounty. So there is more than enough incentives for you to do your part.

Just imagine, ten years from now we will be laughing a bit, remembering when a few Silicon Valley Corporations had everyone by the throat, and wonder how we ever put up with their antics.

The future we can be in hand of public only through decentralized things where no one can stop no one and the power is in the hand of public to decide a right and wrong.

The decentralised platforms are the future of free speech. Centralised system doesn’t allow us to speak. Move in to decentralised platforms

I'm sure soon we see how YouTube start lose lot users ... and I mean LOT .

Excellent review @meno and you are right, our great success is still ahead and you just need to constantly go for it!

You don't have the right to free speech on someone elses website. If you don't like youtube's rules you should make your own site, with your own rules.

You don't have the right to free speech on someone elses website.

truth is that there's some merit to this, but social media has stopped being a website and it's sort of become a public square. So yes, on paper I agree, but in practice it seems like we are filtering discourse.

The rules for YouTube are applied sparingly and randomly. Also, right at the heart of it, their rules are darn right illegal. If they are a public square, as they claim, then they need to follow section 230 of the communications decency act.

@meno, In my opinion these actions are nothing surprising because we already expected the level of Domination by the Centralised System.

It's a positive step and it will going to spread the importance of Decentralisation and Decentralised System. And in my opinion now 3SPEAK will become new home for many for sure.

yes, it just came out and it's already amazing

That's true.

YouTube can be such bullshit. I've had videos removed and had copyright strikes for videos with a few thousand views, contrast that with people posting the same thing and getting hundreds of thousands, or millions in some cases and YouTube did nothing!

Incredible that the centralized platforms have censored what has made the country successful given the threats to their profits. The weight of the decision will come around in due time.

I can’t for the life of me pronounce that one 😅

We have an opportunity here and I for one am going to try make the most of it!

With you and Dan supporting anyone that does openly invite those censored I am hoping we can stir up a little activity.

Steem is a great place for uncensorable content. Even if it is downvoted to be negative the content is still there! That's why I am here :)

There are several content creators on steemit already, which is great, but many still need to get on SteemIt right away. There many content creators, independent journalists, just trying to stay afloat. Then suddenly, Carlos Maza, decides to go on a Twitter outrage, that really should have been blocked but you know how Twitter is. Then in a week, everyone is scrambling. I agree with you, it has coming for quite a while. The YouTube rules are applied at severe randomness. People of the left say, "well, they are a private company." That is true, but it doesn't give them the right to do whatever they want. They still need to follow the laws of the land. But many don't care, just as long as it goes their way. Then one day, it will come after them and then it will be an oh crap moment for them.

I wonder what will happen when one of these big media corporations buys themselves a whale stake in a platform such as steem and starts downvoting posts to hide them when it doesn't like their opinion, people like youtube kicked off their platform. Something to think about...

That is a great speech @threespeak...well done!

Nice post @meno
