Interesting day that day was! I've tried photographing the moon with my miserly stock 18mm lens on my Nikon D3300 but so far my effort is still below par.

18mm should be good enough. You need a tripod and try a few different exposure times.

Start with 6 seconds and increment up.

The Moon is moving very fast so it's tricky but great fun.

So, a Lunatic is not someone from the mental hospital. That's nice to know. Next time when someone called me a lunatic, I will say, "Yes, I love watching and studying the moon." :-)

Yes, we don't know how fast the moon move until we are observing it. And not many people do that. I am now on holiday and sitting on the balcony of my friend's place, I was able to trace the path of the moon when it was setting. I took pictures after a couple of minutes. The last one I took was when it was going down behind the local hill. When I put my phone down and looked up again it was gone. So, I understand how fast the moon can move. :-)

I was only 3 at the time of the Moon landing, so I didn't see it. I do remember later things like when the US and Russia linked up in orbit.
