A Chance to Grow Up

in palnet •  5 years ago

"Baby talk, baby talk. It's a wonder you can walk." Remember that bully's chant?

The older I become, the less patience I possess for immaturity in adults. Is it me or are many young people growing up emotionally later and later? Emotional maturity comes at different stages for everyone and diverse circumstances play in to the process.

Generations past saw children living very different lives. Many grew up with expectations to work at a young age. Work brings with it the ability to concentrate on tasks and complete them, and it brings satisfaction on a job well done. Meeting the expectations of parents is a reward that develops self esteem.

Failures bring with them lessons on how to begin again, to change a process and to develop critical thinking and skills. The ability to set goals and meet them is one gift that is a lifelong blessing that comes with the expectations of chores and responsibilities.

More and more children are being raised on electronics; television, tablets, and games. Books are no longer being read to children nearly as often as before the electronic revolution.

With more TV shows, electronic games and social media participation results in less social interaction and more exposure to the materialism and the self centered focus of the gimme media.

There is a rise of drug use in these parts, and indeed, all over the United States. The search for pleasure or blissful ignorance may be an underlying cause. Parents are burying children who never grew up, graduated or learned coping skills.

Running from problems, avoiding confrontation, failure to hold down a job and the list goes on are all symptoms of never being able to grow into healthy and productive adults.

I speculate, and listen to many young people, who are floundering to find their way in a world saturated with messages that tell them that they are right to be selfish and avoid suffering. Someone else is to blame for their problems. Someone else should pay for their choices. These thoughts will continue to prevent them from realizing their dreams in a truly fulfilling life and helping to secure a better future for all of us.

My hope is for a return to family values and communication between people. The elephant in the room needs discovered, discussed and deposed and our youth want guidance. We can't solve all the problems but we can help one person at a time if we wake up to the dangers facing our children and make the changes needed to salvage their futures.

Well said. Kids/young adults can't even handle any sort of stress. They all seek pills and or therapy, which that alone saddens me. They are not taught that things will not always go how they want it. Society nowadays coddles them too much. I hope there are parents out there that spend quality time with them, and not let their time be swallowed up by modern technology. The chore thing is a great thing for them to have too. If they want something, let them work for it.
As always, love reading your stories. Sorry for such a long comment my friend.

You are most welcome. :)

I try to see that mine read a hard cover book once every month or two. Try to have conversations with them every now and then. The disconnection in the world doesn't need what we are bringing out here so we got to change the narrative. But I get you when you say you have zero patience for immature adults... I would rather hang out with children. They are beyond interesting 🌻💞

I agree @tezmel! As always I so appreciate your feedback. ❤

Well, cultural Marxism in Universities defines the main suppressor for them - white heterosexual patriarchate - the western civilization. That is their enemy. Of course, once they dismantle it, everything wil be great! The government will give them six-figures income and all the people in the world will be happy. )))

Sure! Our debt can figure it all out! @mgaft1 🤪
