Photos of Tierras Altas, Panama Flower Festival and Parade - Fun Friday by A Panama Mama

Last Friday I was telling you about the Flower parade in our town and how we planned to go. It would be our first time, so I didn’t know what to expect. Note to self. Next year, wear super comfortable shoes and maybe rain boots.

Beautiful dresses! And check out their hair decorations!

The parade was to start at 10 and our friend told us we could meet there at 10, go to the festival before and catch the parade when it starts. That should have been our first hint! The people camped out on the side of the road all day should have been another. This is an all-day affair!

We walked around at the festival for about 2 hours. There was a lot to see and do there. Two of my brave boys went on the short zip line they had set up and loved it. Of course, it was pouring for part of the time, but we still had a great time with our other gringo friends!

At noon, we left the festival and headed toward the parade that was supposed to pass right in front of the festival. It had not arrived at that point yet, so we started walking up the street. We were able to then see bands, floats covered in flowers (think Rose Parade on a tiny scale), dancing people and creative dresses!

We watched and walked up the street for about 2 hours. There was about a 20 minute pause in between each entry. It was painfully slow, but like I said, an all-day affair. We ended up leaving before it was over and decided next year we would wait about halfway through and walk up the road to catch the last entry as it was just starting. That would take way less time and be just as fun! Enjoy the pics and let me know what looks like the most fun in the comments!

I think this horse looks like a piñata. Yep, all flowers!

A lot of the girls were walking down the road in dresses they made.
This one was covered in veggies!

One of the many high school bands that marched. We even heard "Thriller" at one point.

Could this be why it was so slow as well? People just walked right up next to the floats, touch them, stop and have their picture made with them.

Yep ! Definitely needed better shoes myself ! I wore my cowboy boots! My feet were so sore ! I took them off the minute I got into the car! But it was a great time !

It was a good time. Next year, walking shoes that are water proof! ;)

The floral structures are amazing. It takes a lot of work to do that! Trust me, I was trained in floristry.

Oh nice. Yeah, they spend weeks getting everything put together and then stuff the flowers on. A week later and some of them are still looking good lining the street.

Great photos! Beautiful. The polleras, the beautiful traditional dresses are complex and steeped in tradition. I think the dresses and adornments are passed down through generations. Is seen some interesting things on YouTube like this

Nice! Gracias! Need to check this out.

Great blog! This is 1 of the festivals I haven't been to yet. Someday for sure but catching all the events in Panama would be a full-time job.
Keep up the good work :-)

Lol! Yeah it would take a long time to go to all of them in Panama!

So fun and colorful, seems like you had a great time!

Very cool! I think the vegetable house was my favorite. So impressive!
