You remember that Sanctimonious New York Times cover everyone shared a few years ago?

"US Deaths Near 100,000" it proclaimed "An Incalculable Loss."

On the day of its publication (May 24, 2020) there were 620 Covid deaths in the United States. And boy did the world make you feel every one of them.

But that was then, this is now, right? Things aren't as dire these days... surely?

Last Thursday (August 11, 2022) the CDC relaxed the recommended Covid guidelines everyone's already forgotten about. On that day, there were 701 Covid deaths...

Did the world make sure you knew about it?

Two years ago, I had friends who supported full draconian lockdowns and called for jailing or even shooting people caught on the streets after curfew. Everyone had a medical opinion about how foolish and selfish I was not to jump on the federal mandate train. I was unfriended by at least a dozen people, probably more, just because I had the audacity to say people should voluntarily choose social distancing and masking instead of having it forced upon them. That backdrop?

(620 Deaths)

Today?

Be honest, did you even know the CDC lifted guidelines a week ago? This backdrop?

(701 Deaths)

Admittedly, those numbers are a tad misleading. May 2020 was a worse month overall than August 2022 is shaping up to be, as it was following a big flair-up and had a higher weekly average death rate. Additionally, the vax is out now and- lethal new variants notwithstanding- there's less risk.

But the point is that Covid is still very much with us. 2022 had some of the deadliest weeks we've had but, unless you had a friend or loved one affected, you'd have hardly known it.

Right now, in fact, numbers are notably spiked compared to the year's low between May, June, and July. Additionally, school is about to start back, football season is about to kick-off, and the holiday season is right around the corner. (As are midterms, but I'm CERTAIN our benevolent politicians aren't doing this for political reasons, they would NEVER).

Yet the powers that be decided now would be the perfect time to relax guidelines and start encouraging the American public to forget they ever made health recommendations in the first place. Even as new variants soar, among vaxed and unvaxed alike.

And, as far as I can see, even my most far-left, bootlicker friends have all but given up and embraced normalcy, and well before CDC changes. I'll see y'all around at a ball game or in a movie theater or a concert and you'll be cheering and laughing and pretending like nothing ever happened.

Just know, I'm not going to forget 🤷‍♂️

Y'all seem awfully eager to embrace amnesia right around now. Nope. I'll be here to remind you how cheaply and casually you were willing to ruin lives, create an epidemic of depression, stunt our childrens' development, cast aside our constitutional liberties like a used napkin, and judge people for doing the same thing you're doing now.

If you were screaming at me for being selfish and demanding legally mandated lockdowns at 620, you don't get to turn around and pretend like we're all good and everything is cool at 701. It's not cool at all. Your collective hysteria ruined hopes and dreams and Covid outbreaks are hitting even the most resolute lockdown nations, anyway.

Henceforth, I'll remember folks who supported sweeping, invasive mandates only to casually slink back into the crowd as if nothing happened.
