The biggest injustice to kids isn't forcing them to wear masks.

A lot of us have pointed out the injustice of forcing kids to wear masks in order to attend school; but, we are missing the most important injustice that a lot of teachers and teachers unions are committing.

It seems that a lot of the most vocal people opposing reopening schools and allowing kids to finally take off their masks are forgetting that they're adults and that their jobs are to work with children.

You can't tell me that kids aren't hearing that they're super spreaders and that their (incredibly irrational) teachers are afraid of them.

The thing is, I'm 36. I'm an adult. I have the intellectual capacity to understand that I was never likely to die from the unspecified virus of unknown origins; but, that there are people in my life who are more vulnerable. I can understand the level of culpability that I may have if I were ever to transmit the virus to somebody. I have the mental maturity to understand that my role in this pandemic is just the reality of the virus and not something that I did wrong.

I would like to think that teachers and teachers unions would possess the same maturity; but, they clearly don't.

So, in order to win political points, they're telling children who don't have the same intellectual and emotional maturity that they're dangerous. We've heard kids being referred to as super spreaders infinitely more often than we've seen anybody be responsible enough to make it clear to kids that none of this is their fault. Kids don't generally have the ability to reason for themselves that a person's fear of them isn't due to something that's wrong with them.

So, really dig for a moment. When was the last time Randi Weingarten even took a moment to clarify that the kids are completely innocent in all of this? Can you point to one pro-lockdown teacher or union rep who has shown that level of empathy and responsibility?

I can't.
