Covid situation in NYC now shittiest it's been since pre-vax, by far. (Left is last 3 months, right is since start of pandemic.) It could be worse: omicron isn't looking especially severe, boosters offer very significant protection, and in a month or so things should be better! A spike like this can't continue for long, too many people will be immune soon via either booster or infection.
But for the next few weeks, the risk of eg hospital overload is unusually high so we should all lean at least a little towards caution.
This is just my take from things I've seen lately, I'm not as up on this as I was, correct me. But I mean the charts are pretty clear. (The deaths chart is much much lower fwiw.)
