Older eligible people should seriously start thinking about boosting up.

If you know older people who haven't had a booster lately, please encourage them to get one. It's like a 2/3 reduction in risk of death from COVID, possibly more with our new BA.5 targeted boosters.

For anyone, getting a booster now also reduces the risk of infection greatly for at least a few months, and can help reduce the scope of our likely winter wave. If that's your goal, maybe wait until October.

Whether it's the primary series for the unvaxxed or an updated booster for anyone else, vaccines provide huge, long-lasting reduction in the risk of death, and apparent reduction in the risk of long COVID.

We all have COVID mitigation fatigue, but that should not excuse the fact that about 400 people are dying from the disease, each and every day, a large proportion of which would probably survive if they get the latest up to date bivalent vaccines which cover the latest variants of Omicron.

The public health crisis may have been exaggerated before, but 400 is nothing to scoff at.
