Panjim, the capital city of Goa and my birthplace – once among the most beautiful towns in the world. It took India less than 50 years to turn it to dreck. Noticing India’s corrosive effect is, of course, crimethink in these parts, and those Goans who do the noticing risk being called “anti-national,” “Portuguese bootlickers,” and worse, by the super patriots.
Seen on my morning walks, some of the surviving ‘objects’ of the vintage Panjim of my young days.
