I had attempted this before but this time I found linuxdeployqt
which made this easy

The secret sauces in how they were made lives in the docker/
folder in the current main (work in progress with dns and integration with auxilliary services like the godoc viewer that shows the documentation generated out of the code in the new version (and yes, it's gonna be hella prettied and made informative).

I just hit the point where I again needed full nodes to connect to my testing nodes and debug the consensus and hardfork logic, and needed plug-and-go binaries and by luck I got the full node working and then found I was able to use qmake to generate correct appimage data and voila, Qt wallet also working, and something to get a bit excited about since the beta for the next generation version is weeks away.
Enjoy!
