THE HAUNTING OF ENCINO MOTEL, NEW MEXICO

On a trip to Hobbs, New Mexico, on one of those lonely deserted backroads we passed the following sign.

It was a beautiful morning and since we were ahead of schedule decided to stop and poke about. My friend thought I was crazy and decided to park the car and wait there. I took some pictures of the deserted motel, and thought nothing of the dark clouds that had suddenly covered the sun. It seemed that I was about to experience the volatile NM weather so I headed back to the car or where I thought we had parked. When I got there and didn't see it or my friend I started to worry. The wind whipped sand and detritus all around me. I headed for some shelter but found it was further away from me as I approached. Very strange...After a few minutes everything calmed and I spotted my friend's car. I headed over to her climbed in and she was as white as a ghost. As soon as I had clicked my seatbelt she took off like a bat out of a shitstorm. Later I looked at the shots I took and saw the ghost images that had tried to escape my camera. Seems that I had disappeared from my friend's line of sight and she had driven around to try to find me. The dust storm was only over where I was. She still swears that I totally disappeared and then reappeared.

New Mexico is a wonderful, mysterious place full of psychic and metaphysical energies. There is no explanation for the intensity of colors in the sky and land or the events that seem to hold great power over the ordinary.
