Parenting from a Reparenting Mindset

I knew so many things about parenting! Or at least I did, until I actually became one. You aren’t a parent, and then you are. You have to hit the ground running.
I read the books. I talked to parents further along the path. Some of it even helped. There is some amazing information out there these days, especially if you want to take a neuroscientific approach.

No matter what I learned though, it still felt like there were an endless number of split-second decision that I needed to make every day — especially as my daughter tilted over into toddlerhood — that were too complicated to warrant a one-size solution.
I didn’t have the time or the luxury to learn to parent before I needed to be a parent. So I figured, why not try something I did have practice, knowledge, and experience doing?
I’ve had to do a lot of reparenting in the last few years. You too?

The idea is that some parental pieces were missing when your childhood puzzle was put together. There are plenty of reasons — parents who were young, parents who were busy surviving, parents who suffered abuse, parents with addictions — but now you’re (supposed to be) a grown up and something is missing. Key skills. Weird gaps in your adulting.
