My first post curating single moms went really well! It lead to a lot of great discussion in the comments, and a single dad spoke up too, saying he would like to participate. Well, of course! I highlighted single moms because I am one, and I do think we have our own particular ways of experiencing things as moms, but I did not want to exclude anyone with that intention. So I was glad when @falseydols spoke up about being a single dad!

I have talked to @falseydols here and there in Discord servers, but I really didn't know a lot about him. Through his interview questions, I found he actually shares a lot in common with me. He currently works in a school with at risk youth (I just quit doing that), and he is an ambient/electronic musician (I try), and is a visual artist.
I can feel in his words a similar feeling that I have had my son's whole life... that time is precious, that art is kind of always the last thing on the list when it comes to surviving...and that pressure always nags at us .....we can never do enough with the limited kid-free time.... that being poor is part if the deal... and damn we love those kids. And, because its pretty isolating being a parent... we don't tend to know many other single parents ourselves. I only know a few in real life, and we never hang out! We do text each other sometimes when stuff is hard. But that is really all we have time for !
What springs from that pressure feeling sometimes, is kind of remarkable. I spin my wheels a lot but really if I look back I realize that I am quite productive considering all the interruptions I have had. @Falseydols and @Wildempress blow my mind even more because their children are younger than mine, and I only have one kid! Major respect to you two !

I was a behavioral therapist in an elementary school for kids with severe emotional disturbances (this is a class of diagnoses in the DSM like severe anxiety, PTSD, autism, ODD, etc) . I did that to get my clinical hours so that I could get licensed as an LCSW. I was going to work through this school year but I burnt out bad in December, just couldnt do it any more and gave notice. I ended up working till mid Feb. Now I am tryingto start my own business as a coach. My focus and passion is community development, community mental wellness. So I am creating a bunch of webinars, groups, and individual plans for activists/advocates/artists... people who are trying to make the world a better place. I want to help support them so they can produce their best work (like trying to make community on Steemit qualifies as that kind of thing). Currently the only real income I have is a freelance gig for a friend and coaching ESL online. I am not making enough money so I am scrambling to build my products up ... while also producing enough art to share here on Steemit...and taxi my teenager around , cook for him, try and make the house clean ...... Its a lot! :) But we just do it, right? Thanks for participating in this! I will keep finding more parents to feature, and it would be fun to kind of cycle back around and check in on people later, too!

Wow you are busy as well! Love all the initiatives you got going on, and I wish you success in them. I think that's one thing I love the most about Steemit; how community driven people are on this platform. It really gives me a new found hope in humanity lol. So many like minded people out there. I like this project a lot. You never know what kind of things people have in common around here. It's really difficult sometimes raising kids alone (and expensive!) Doesn't matter if it's because of death, separation, or life choice- it's something misunderstood by everyone who's not living it. Glad to support you in your work on connecting single parents on steemit. Admirable mission.

I always believe that life brings us what and who we need at the right time. I know I mentioned it to you on discord but I am a soon to be single mom here for an undetermined amount of time. I am a strong person but oh so weak. I'm not glad that anyone has to do parenting alone but I am glad to meet other moms who can help support me when the time comes.

I totally agree with the tag it takes a villiage. I hesitate to call myself a single mom because I am blessed with the support of friends, family, and my kids’ father too.
I know how isolating it can feel. Things felt much worse and harder to bear before I had my group of core supporters.

Oh, yes sorry. Discord is an app like WhatsApp or Skype. A lot of Steemit people use it because it has the ability to make places called "servers" which is a collection of chat rooms. But there is also individual chatting. If you sign up for it, you then go to "find or start a conversation" and you type in @dflo and you will find me. You dont have to friend people there in order to chat with them. You can just start a conversation with me. It is really great to join because there are a lot of "servers" that are created around specific interests. So it is a helpful tool for networking.
