I sometimes wonder why I even bother

It's such a slap in the face when you invest so much time as a single parent, denying yourself the ability to be selfish for your child and then along comes your ex and after a sprinkling of bills manages to buy the affections of that now young adult.
Then you're left alone, child having taken everything both tangible and intangible and completely forgotten. How ungrateful can someone be?
