THE HISTORY AND HEALTH BENEFITS OF PARSLEY
Parsley has so many uses and cures for humans. Sometimes you can overlook the health benefits because you normally see parsley on your dinner plate as a garnish. Well parsley is much more than that it’s a great herb! Derived from the Greek word meaning "rock celery" (it's a relative to celery), it has been cultivated for 2,000 years, and was used medicinally long before that. The good thing about parsley is that you can get it at almost any grocery store anytime of the year. It is best to use organic if you are going to juice it or use it in your green smoothies.
There are a few types of parsley: One is curly, which is just that, curly. Curly parsley is used mostly as a garnish, or in soups, and manly in Nordic countries. Flat leaf or sometimes called Italian is used mostly in southern European countries. I think that flat leaf parsley has more flavor so I prefer to use it in juices and in my morning smoothies. There is also another type called turnip rooted parsley or Hamburg parsley. You can eat the white roots of the turnip parsley like you would a parsnip.
Parsley has many health benefits and cures. It contains lots of vitamin C, iron (more than spinach), manganese, calcium, and potassium. Parsley is also rich in vitamin A with is helpful if you have night blindness.
Raw parsley is also very beneficial for cleansing the blood by dissolving sticky deposits in your veins and clearing out toxins from the body. Parsley is helpful with the removal of kidney and gallstones. Parsley has also been used to treat urinary tract infections, painful menstruation, lowers blood pressure, relieves inflammation in the joints, improves asthma and other bronchial infections. Parsley can also help with bad breath so why wouldn’t you eat your parsley? It cleanses your whole body plus it helps with so many other aspects of your health.
I use parsley in my smoothies every morning. It’s good to start the day with the benefits of parsley. You can also use parsley for many other raw food recipes that are beneficial to your health. I always sneak parsley in everything. My family doesn’t even know I’m helping them!
