Saw this quote some weeks back from a friend's status on WhatsApp and at that moment the epiphany that hit me relative to our every day Life still resonates till this moment.
Men of great abilities are slow to act, for it is easier to avoid occasions for committing yourself than to come well out of a commitment. Such occasions test your judgment; it is safer to avoid them than to emerge victorious from them. One obligation leads to a greater one, and you come very near to the brink of disaster.
BALTASAR GRAClAN
A funny thing about life is how easy and gifted we tend to be when analysing and critiquing on others.
Many are quite masterful in the art of passing judgements on people who seem to have made a slight mistake, acted wrongly maybe out of ignorance, or at times carried out an awful act.
And at that moment they are to be as paragons of perfection and immaculacy.
But the bitter truth will always reveal itself and that is the fact that we all at one point or the other have fallen short of some law or rule, we all at a moment of madness have inadvertently shown our imperfections.
When we meet with people who are struggling to figure their way out, when we come across people seeking for a way out of a situation they find themselves roped in, our first instinct as humans would be to question such an individual, why he/she got into that situation in the forest place, or even blame them for the consequences.
Most times we may even go as far as rendering medicine after death advices to such persons in need.
The truth is, wether wilfully or mistakenly, when a misdeed is carried by someone, our first reaction within ourselves would be that of self-truthfulness - which is to realise that we are not far better or more righteous than that person.
Because we have also at a point in our life made our own mistakes too, we've also had our bad moments.
So in that fashion, we need to admit to ourselves that we are the product of the flaws we overcame.
So when we see people still struggling with their own battles, errors and faults, we shouldn't publicly flay or criticize them. Splashing pillories upon pillories is not the solution.
We need to first accept such individuals into the warmth of our truthful self that knows its personal imperfections, offer help and loving corrections, and offer help and carefully constructed rebuke that'll will spur the offender to see the need to be a better person, to improve and to grow.
Let us not be too quick to strike a pointing finger to highlight people's flaws, but in a loving and careful manner, let us embrace their mistakes with the hands of correction and encouragement to be better.
As an excerpt from "BALTASAR Gracian, .... Such occasions test your judgment; it is safer to avoid them than to emerge victorious from them..."
Indeed it is safer to avoid heaping up blame upon blame on people who have done wrong in one way or another, and to offer a way out or a solution out of their miseroand mistakes, than to emerge victorious in convicting them of their wrongs.
From all indications, most times when we feel that we have successfully convicted them of the gravity of their flaws, unbeknownst to use we have lost the trust and confidence of such soul in us.
Have a blessed and blissful week ahead.
