Giving Junks a second life and Plants 🌿 extended growthsteemCreated with Sketch.

Ever since 2006 incident of Steven Johnson Syndrome (medical allergy) my mom has been in need on a constant dose of traditional herb supplements to help her to rebuild her body including sustaining her knee inflammation.

And one of them, is essence of Chicken.

Due to lack of time and also its more dangerous for seniors around gas kitchens my mom has stopped making old fashion essence of chicken and resorted to the commercial method of bottled ones with extra herbs, and it was still a good two way thing when the company still receive used bottles for recycling.

And my mom gets 5 cents discount per bottle to reduce expenses.

Until they stop doing so and repackaged into these plastic covered glass bottles for "the sake of easy opening"

Probably with the excuse of it is getting too expensive to recycle and sanitisation

Or simply people are just too lazy to recycle

Hence it has become a really sad thing to see as glass bottles piling up and no one takes in glass for recycling in Malaysia anymore.

(at least from the ones I know of)

So what do we make of it?

Recently my plants finally started to climatise themselves to high altitude survival after I placed a little more effort to spray some "dew" on them before I rush off to work on alternate days, and my spider plant started producing babies out from a recycle large bubble tea cup that I have decided to turn into a pot.

I started my experiment with the babies with hydrophonic planting, keeping their leaves clean and with a bit of liquid fertilizer kept their blades clean.

After a week, they finally started rooting comfortably indoors and with small bottles they are perfect to be placed anywhere around the house indoors, as long as they are constantly cleaned with fresh water (to avoid Aedes mosquitos)

Those who are unfamiliar with this plant, Spider plants are famous (and supported by Nasa Research) that they can clean 90% of the toxic air in the house, keeping the air indoor less stale and breathable.

You can also look at Nasa Clean Air Study in Wikipedia

Not to mention it is one of the top 10 recommended non toxic plants for air filtration which is easy to find in evergreen tropical climate.

And to top up my recent discovery after my plants start to climatise and adjust to this new environment, the mother spider plant bloomed!

This is actually the first time in my life I see a blossom bud from a spider plant. Most of the time it only produces more babies but to blossom, this is rare for me.

By almost noon time the buds are all fully blossomed!

I hope this is a good omen that my plant is happy with the new place and fully adjusted to recycle plastics. Haha.

Maybe soon it will give me enough babies for me to gift these babies to colleagues who can have them beside their machines and greening the place; not to mention it can absorb radiation from electronic devices.

Do you have indoor plants?

Or do you think its a hassle to take care of them?

Until Then

Keep Calm and Recycle
