With the big changes coming to Steem in the coming weeks its time to be bolder.
Bots have hurt the steem ecosystem greatly. The effects cant even be measured since outside the clear economic effect it had a psychological effect on creators and crypto investors.
Bots thrive on shitcontent that has been openly admitted by a number of bot owners. Fyrstiken (booster bidbot) even said that the reason why he is invested in steem is because of the shit content here.
Which is great for Bidbots because those that cannot get votes buy them.
With the hardfork coming that will hurt creators greatly we need to make moves to give something back to them.
Bots hurt creators. Bots make steem look like a token printing scam.
Ive tried to accept bots and look at them from a forced positive side but when everything is put on paper they have very little positives to show for.
We need to come to a community stakeholder consensus to get rid of them.
The only way i see it happening is by creating a flagging, 0 tolerance account with assigned delegation to wipe out all bidbot rewards.
Bid bots are easily tracked and visible.
The response to that would ofc be offchain vote purchases but those are not only risky but increase vote purchasing difficulty greatly.
If you increase the difficulty enough you not only make it harder to purchase, you also cut the profit margin of vote sellers.
Move to abusive self voting and circle jerks would have to be addresed as well which means the reaction would need to be two fold. The community would possibly not be able to deal with large stake holders that will abuse the system but you can deal with a huge number of smaller vote sellers. And thats good enough especially with free downvotes that are coming.
You cannot eradicate vote selling but you can deal a great blow to it. Tied into the 50/50 split that will make vote purchases a more riskier investment, although not really effecting bot profits, that would be enough to put Steem back on track.
Something needs to be done.

Some good bots could be on our side flagging. Just some.

I stopped to follow circle jerks because they don't help Steem price.
