The growth of the Steem community has slowed down tremendously, and the daily active users have also slowed. We aren’t truly connected with one another as we are on other platforms like Facebook, or Twitter where we actually speak to at least some of the people we follow at least on a weekly basis. We need platforms like Steemit and Partiko to build solutions that keep us more engaged with one another. That’s the only way our community will grow. We need to grow fast for our survival as the value of your Steem is dependent on the growth of this community. Or else the Steem blockchain will become irrelevant, or replaced.
The Steem community was flourishing in 2017, it was primarily driven by the crypto bull market, but since then it growth has slowed down. If Steemit and Partiko are building applications that are depended on the price of bitcoin, then this entire experiment will fail. DApps on this blockchain need to start operating like a Silicon Valley companies, that spend 99% of their resources on its initial growth until we have at least 5 million accounts opened on steem. Whatsapp, Instagram, Facebook all had more than a million users within the first few months of starting.
A huge contributing factor for our slowdown is that it is incredibly hard for users to sign for a steem account. I even faced difficulties with it when I first signed up so much that it took me almost a week to figure out how to do it. On Facebook or Instagram you just need your email address and you have your account set up. It should be that simple to sign up! No one has the patience to spend more than 10 minutes trying to sign up for a Steem account – even if their best friend’s telling them to.
This is my recommendation to the companies like Steemit and Partiko, you need to start operating like a startup, you need to be concerned about the lack of user growth, and you need to address or fix the user onboarding problem immediately. Partiko has done a fairly nice job of keeping users engaged with one another with real time notifications, instant messaging and Partiko Points, but Steemit has not. We need to create a real user-friendly social media experience for our existing community, as well as the new users we bring on.
How many of you are connected to a family member on Steem? What about a high school or college friend? I could bet that most of are only connected to friends we met on the Steem, I too am guilty as charged. But why is that? Why haven’t we as a community made an effort to grow? Why haven’t we told our friends and family about Steem? The growth in this community is mutually beneficial for all of us, the sooner we realize that the sooner we will add more value to this blockchain. So as a community let’s do our part.
