Oh Poseidon we both hail from the muddy waters of the southern USA and now find ourselves trying to make a life over here in Malaysia.. This poor guy doesn't even speak the language and has just now found a new home to stretch his legs and neck out. Despite our communication difficulties I'm positive we have a great deal in common.
I'm not convinced either one of us will ever enjoy an inconspicuous moment but we shall try.. I myself have focused my efforts on the native tongue and whilst I'm by no means fluent, saya sedang belajar.. "I am studying".. I recently discovered that Duolingo now has Bahasa Indonesia which is similar enough to melayu and will open the lines of communication to hundreds of millions of speakers spread throughout SE Asia..
I'm taking an aggressive approach and already can see a major difference in how I'm viewed as a westerner that has learned a bit of the lingo.. It's also not a bad idea for me to pick up some Tamil and various dialects of Chinese.. I certainly feel sharper intellectually than I did when stateside. If I'm being completely honest I find that most westerners talk a lot but often say basically nothing..
Alright, I'm off to hit the app and enjoy the evolution of my reptilian limbic primordial mind.. Coffee and figuring out how to camouflage are on the agenda...
I should note I've found some interesting discrepancies between Indo and Malay that could be problematic. For instance the word "butuh" in Indonesia means need but in Malay it means cock and not the rooster, but the vulgar slang meaning dickhead 🙄
So if I said Kamu butuh here I'd possibly get pounded as that translates to " you dick" whereas in Indonesia it's simply "you need".. Fun stuff eh? jangan menjadi butuh hari ini OK?

I got to get back into getting my daily Duolingo streak going. I believe that different languages suit different people. Unfortunately most us probably never find the language that’s right for us.

Nice! Which language were you learning? I have a decent knowledge of Spanish but I'm rusty and have terrible grammar.. Like Trump I know the best words though 😂
