What Increases Our Job Satisfaction Level?

Cal Newport is doing a poll to find out how individuals who are passionate about their work arrived at this position. The responses he gets startle him greatly.

Because he sees that practically none of them follow the guidance to "Follow your passion"; rather, the exact reverse occurs. He discovers that individuals love their profession because of results they get when they become skilled at what they do, not because of enthusiasm.

According to Newport, a rather prominent amount of interest rather than passion is what initially led us to take on our current position. We demonstrate enthusiasm in an area, and as we work at it and acquire knowledge, we become experts in it.

We are much more devoted to a task when we demonstrate our competence and produce favourable outcomes. Put another way, when we get better at what we do, our relationship with it gets more intense and we begin to refer to it as passion.

But enthusiasm can also be seen as a place to start for someone who is just beginning out in their job. Consequently, disappointment is unavoidable.

The causes of workers' job satisfaction levels are looked into in a study. Who among us views their work as a "passion" or merely a means of subsistence? People who have reached a particular level of experience in numerous business fields—whether they are doctors or administrative assistants—see their profession as a "passion" at a similar pace.

But physicians are more likely to select their careers out of enthusiasm; we assume administrative assistants work in this field because they need to support themselves. It seems that passion is a quality that is developed via expertise and experience rather than a predetermined one.

In other words, what kind of professional experience do we need to accumulate over time, even if we don't start out with passion?

The same study discovered that our passions—creativity, control over our actions, and effectiveness—can be realised in a work setting that consistently satisfies our three basic requirements.

The ability to improvise or try out novel ideas when producing a piece of art is referred to as creativity. Control refers to the ability to decide where, when, and how to carry out your work. To be effective, your work must benefit your supervisors, customers, and coworkers.
