Hey I had the exact same problem. You need the original password to change it. did you save it like it told you too lol?

Hey, how did you solve it?
Nope, I tried all of the Passwords varieties I use normally - but none of them is working.
When I click on the Link in the Mail, there is automatically a password on my smartphone (14-15 dots long) which I cannot see :/

I kinda got lucky. when you sign up they generate a random password about 20 digits long that you were supposed to copy and save somewhere. I choose to save it in my contacts but the password was longer than the allowed characters and it cut off the end of the password. luckily I had it saved in my clipboard and was able find the end off my password and sign in on my computer. but obviously if you didn't save it anywhere then your either stuck with your phone or maybe try and open a new account and remember to save the password 😊 let me know how you get on.

Took me a while to get back here, but at least I solved the problem!
I found an easy way to get it. I had the password saved on my phone (but just for one browser). So I opened Settings --> Accounts&Passwords--> searched for steemit & simply copied my password. Now I have it stored savely!
