Storstrom Bridge in Denmark, a cycle path on the sea

It will connect the islands of Selandia and Falster in Denmark: it is the Storstrom Bridge, whose works will end in 2022

It will connect the islands of Selandia and Falster on the Baltic Sea: it is the Storstrom Bridge that will be built in Denmark and will replace the previous infrastructure. Along 6.5 km , 24 meters wide will be crossed by two road lanes, high-speed trains and a pedestrian lane .

An important detail is that of the lane reserved for the cycle path, which once again shows the importance and value that is given to mobility on two wheels in this European area. The name of the bridge is that of the arm of the sea where it will be built and will unite Selandia, the largest island of Denmark, where there is also the capital Copenhagen , in Falster . Specifically, the connection will be between the cities of Vordingborg and Orehoved .

A strategic structure for both transport and tourism. In fact, the number of cars estimated to pass every day on the bridge amounts to 8 thousand. The high speed trains that will cross it, both passenger and freight, will be those of the Copenhagen - Hamburg railway line. The Storstrom Bridge will allow an increase in circulation between Denmark and some important cities in Northern Europe such as Bremen and Hanover.

This intervention will replace the bridge built in 1939, no longer suitable for the current traffic.

The whole area is very interesting from the point of view of tourism . On the island of Selandia, the largest in Denmark, there is also the capital Copenhagen. The city is located on the east coast and is about a hundred kilometers from where the bridge will be built. An unmissable destination also for its historical importance, just think that it already existed in the Viking age and was a fishing village. The official foundation, however, dates back to 1167, when Bishop Absalon had it fortified. In the whole area there are not only suggestive monuments, palaces and churches, but it is also an interesting and very beautiful area from the point of view of the landscape.

Falster is also an island to visit, famous for its beaches and also for cycling routes. Not to forget the numerous medieval villages. The ideal area for a cycling holiday full of sights and culture.

Work on the Storstrom Bridge, to be carried out by Italian companies, should be completed during the second half of 2022.
