This is a question I am asked quite often. People are excited to be on a show and so they start taking pictures. Pictures of their favorite actor. Pictures of a scene. But, wait! Before you get to carried away you need to find out a few things! Like read the fine print of your contract. You can lose your pay, be banned from set, and even sued for breach of contract in some cases. So if it is not mentioned during your audition or in the paperwork you submit ask the people when you sign in.
Think about it for a moment... your on a popular episode of a show. There is a cliff hanger ending. If you take pictures and post those you just ruined the big event! I have seen folks escorted off for taking pictures. So ask for permission first instead of being banned or sued. In some cases, I have worked on sets where it was encouraged to take pictures. But, I will take pictures that are not revealing to what I am working on. Today was an example. I was on set... I took a picture by myself dressed as a detective. I did not state where I was at, what project it was for. You will also notice I was against a white wall. So nothing is revealed!
Sometimes on indie films you are encouraged to take pictures to get the message out. Other times you might work on a project the you actually sign a non-disclosure agreement. That simply means you can not take pictures, make a post, or tell anyone what you are working on! An example of that is when I worked on the pilot episode for "The Gifted". It was a brand new serious and even had a code name. You had to be on the list to even get access past the gate. Now that has aired and I am no longer under that obligation. So now I can post pictures...
Now I am still under NDA agreements with a few other projects including Feature Films, short films, episodes, music videos and commercials since they have not been publicly released. Now you see me playing the part of a principal on Murder Made Me Famous: The Unabomber. Because it aired this season... I was also on Queen of the South 2 and I will be on Episode Season 7. On this show I am used quit a bit as a blocker. What this means is that a main character is hidden by me for a big reveal. This happened in Season 2 at the High End Car show.
So back to my point here... don't always assume because your on a show or on set that you can take pictures. Always ask and if they say yes... then ask when you can share them. I always recommend after the release of a project if it is revealing anything about the show!
Until next week... have an awesome time watching your favorite entertainment... you never know where you might see me!
