By nature, majority of us want to give a hand to those who are really in need. Helping others is just the right thing to do to promote humanness and to show compassion to this very world that we are living.

Yes it is true that by extending our kindness and generosity to others is what makes life more meaningful. It is through helping others that we can understand how blessed we are for having the capacity to share what we do have in life. By sharing things that we have to others, may it be financial means, material thing, food, or opportunity, uplifts or changes lives to those who are underprivileged.

Well helping is indeed the essence of living in making other people’s lives better.

However, there are some people who never value our way of helping them. They become dependent to us to the point that they never do anything to improve their lives. Instead, they take advantage of our generosity and make us their source of needs and wants. They never do anything but ask and ask help.

This is particularly common among Filipino families, as the culture close family ties is still prevalent. Some members of the family, like the grown-ups continue to depend on their parents in terms of financial when in fact they have already the ability to earn. Or some of them rely so much on their sibling/s as if they did not have the capacity or the ability to work and make money. What a waste!

To help those who have nothing is pleasurable as we become one of their instruments to make their lives changed - a different one. But so many of them do not really understand what help really means. They think that helping is boundless and because they are poor they do think that they have the right to be given such help most of the time. That is rotten mentality and it is toxic.

Being given a help from others in terms of money or opportunity is already a privilege. When one is being helped, he has to seize the opportunity and make it a stepping stone to improve his situation.

We have to help those who really know how to help themselves and stop helping those who never bother to change their difficult situation even so many helps have already been given.
