You can add your profile picture by going to your wallet. Once you're there, you will see a link called 'Settings' in the menu bar on the right (next to 'Wallet').
There, you can add a profile pic and a header background.
If uploading won't work - which happens sometimes - you'll have to do it on Steempeak. It is the same site as SteemIt, but with a different layout.
To log in at Steempeak, you'll need your private active key.
Once you're logged in, click on your avatar in the top right corner to go to your profile/blog. Click the 'Actions' button and select 'Edit profile'.
You can then add your images in the popup window. Normally, that upload feature should work.

Excelente respuesta amigo simplymike! No tuve problema con el idioma ya que el navegador que uso me realizo una buena traducción y comprendí toda tu exposición. Te confieso que ya había resuelto mi problema al momento de leer tu explicación, sin embargo, no dejo de ser útil y de mostrarme cosas nuevas, como por ejemplo, steempeak entre oros detalles. Ademas de tener un buen conocimiento de la plataforma sabes explicar de manera muy clara.
