Here is the deal, you post a comment explaining what you like about @pifc's Curation Contest and/or ideas of what can be improved and you will get a 100% upvote. You need to have experience with the Curation Contest, so prefer those who have entered the contest but will also look at comments from those featured. Will even look seriously at those who give some honest thoughtful opinions on the contest.

The concept is laid out here as to why I'm doing this and really don't want to retype all of that. But know it's my way of giving back and pulling some data for a future post which I feel will help some people understand how their votes effect the vests assigned to each vote. This is about to become much more important with HF20 as 50 vests will be removed from each vote no matter the size.

Rules

This is pretty simple:

  1. Post your honest thoughts on what @pifc Curation Contest is doing right, what can be improved on, and ideas that might help us grow.
  2. Have experience taking part in the @pifc Curation Contest as a Curator or Featured Blogger, or really understand what we are doing so your thoughts are helpful.
  3. In 34 hours from the post time (Noon Chicago, IL USA time on Wednesday) I will start upvoting every comment that qualifies at 100% in an attempt to drain my voting power to 50%. This gives everyone almost a day and a half to find this post and comment.

You can Help

Need your help so this doesn't turn into a job. Please tag a few of your recent featured bloggers so they know to come to this post. Your featured bloggers opinions are really important to me!

Vote Values

At 100% power my vote is currently worth 11c and at 50% it will be 5c so you will be getting at least that much from me. Odds are really strong that the last votes will all be for @minnowbuilder as I will have that account reply to each comment in case I need more comments to upvote for my test. Most of the votes given will be between 7-11c most likely.

Almost Forgot, Now at 2,000sp total

I lease about 1,000sp and just powered up enough to have 2,000sp for the the test. Wanted this to be an exact number as it will help with the simple high level talk about vests. Easy math with things are even numbers.

This post has been revived by steem-forever!

contest seems to run smooth as is but think it was good when people tried to find brand new bloggers. maybe make bonus for much lower level.

took care of that delagation, send the steem whenever you can.

Thank you!

So glad I caught this. Not here a lot this week but hope to catch up some this weekend.
I Still love everything about the weekly challenge. I do wonder how the judges hold up week after week. I myself try to visit as many features as possible. The only real issue with that is running out of vote power way too soon. Our judges are like the energizer bunny going and going...
I personally am trying to use my features on those who really seem to need the boost. Maybe they will click on over and want to play along.
It is great to see a couple of those people getting really involved.
There are quite a few of those I have featured in the past who I stay engaged with on a regular basis like
@roleerob @janton @delishtreats @juliabreheny @ginnyannette

Voting power is always an issue. It's one reason we moved to ending entries on Sat night so the judges would have 2 days to recharge. There are times they drain well below where they want to be.

Thanks for trying to find others to join in the fun!

Voting power is always an issue

Yes indeed! I am trying to buy some more. Coinbase is being a bit difficult this time with the ID verification. Maybe that will work itself out while prices are still down.

Best of luck with the verification process. They can be a real PITA at times to deal with.

Something to consider is to use esteemapp for your voting/commenting. It will allow you to pick say 50% voting power and spread the love a little further.

Thank you! I did start testing esteemapp out for the posting features. I hate to cut an already tiny vote but great info to have just in case. I hope to play catch up on some Steemit stuff on Saturday.
I have been tempted to experiment with leasing. Need to learn more.

First things first, I have read none of the 4 comments already posted, (I normally do so as not to repeat stuff).

PIFC is one of the few, if not the only contest that rewards people for sharing information about new users. We all remember how hard it is to make a splash when we first joined steemit.

PIFC, has created a dedicated group of people that go out scour through the new feed, the introduceyourself feeds, and other methods to find people with quality blogs that may be being overlooked. This has brought to, (at least to mine), attention of quality in the making or potential. Many of those selected and profiled by a "contestant", end of participating in the process, so there is always a good selection of people to look through for when some is looking for new content.

The manner in which the "finds" are presented, aid people like myself, looking for content. There is a small bio or report of what the "contestant" found. More of a curator than a "contestant".

In closing it helps the "contestant", it helps "quality content producers", and it helps content hunters. a very good trifecta.

When explaining the contest to the potential guest judges I've been calling the contestants curators on a regular basis as that is what they are. Some truly start off as a contestant, but if they stick around for a couple weeks they become true curators of content once they really "get it" and buy into the whole concept.

Thank you for your thoughts!

They really are after getting their feet wet a few times, then they start to look at and for the better quality content to feature. A lot of the picks do deserve some small curies or large curies in some cases. The contestants/curators should get a curie fee for any content that does get curied.

Only wish we had an in for curie that would reward our curators. That would be amazing as there have been more then a few featured posts that were picked up by curie after they were featured.

Lol, I didn't read your comment, but I wrote something quite similar!

Yes, on something like this post, it requires not reading comments. A lot of the same or similar comments are likely to be posted, but that just goes to show how well the contest is looked at as a "resource".

First of all, I'm very curious what conclusion you'll come to regarding the upvoting business :) But more importantly, the contest! I've been mulling over the rotating judge 'issue' and I'm thinking we should invite from our list of regulars who always enter the contest. I think they'd appreciate seeing the flip side to this whole thing.

Generally speaking though, I love the path this contest has taken; everyone participating has made it awesome ... from judges, participants, sponsors ...everyone, including you lol :)

There are more then a few that would make great judges and I'd love to do this too. Sure you know the idea of the guest judge was to add some exposure and hopefully bring in some large upvotes for featured posts. Know that at least 1 person got a full 100% upvote last week from knircky and he was the top vote on many posts. While it's not all about the money, it's really nice seeing some people get a bigger reward for their content.

All that said it's still a great idea and one we will need to work into the rotation.

Yes, I hear what you're saying and it makes perfect sense @minnowbuilder!

I've made no secret of the fact that I love this contest and am proud that I have managed an entry every single week since the beginning. It's one of my favorite posts of the week!

I miss featuring an optional bonus blogger - so I'd love it if that came back again.

I like that the max rep was increased, but also point out that rep and even SP aren't a great indicator of what qualifies as a newbie (since both can be bought to a certain degree). I suspect that projected payout is a better indicator, but even that is incomplete as even a newbie can have a @curie that throws the numbers off.

I'm afraid I don't have too many ideas on making it better right now. I'm struggling with jaw pain (TMJ) at the moment, which is having a negative impact on my mental ability - and I can't see a dentist until next week. (And even that might take care of only one suspected aspect of the pain.)

There are so many factors that can boost a newbie beyond level 50 really easily and curie alone makes a massive difference, but paid votes can do it too. The move to level 55 has really helped with allowing everyone to find people that have shown a little more commitment to sticking around.

As for the optional featured blogger, that is an easy one to add back into the mix. Felt like it wasn't really being used much except for a couple people. But it's optional and if even just one person likes it there is no reason not to have it.

Hope everything works out at the dentist!

The best part about pifc are the people behind it. All that are involved. Sponsors, judges and even the entries who bring features in to give them more exposure

With the amount of messages on discord I think we know each others thoughts pretty well on this subject. Thanks for your amazing efforts for the contest and running the discord room!

It's all team work. And you put one hell of a team together 👍

All votes have been cast. Will share the results tomorrow.

Thank you everyone for taking part!

Well after reading what everyone else already said lol pretty much covers it for me 😉. That saved me like 10 mins of texting🤣. I dont think anything could be changed you guys are doing a good thing. Maybe a NEW idea would be to find posts that are like under a dollar and we add it in our post what it was when we found them? And we could like set goals just small ones like wish goals ( like lets get this post to hit the $2 mark etc.) But like i said it would have to be like over so many hours old and under X amount and logged for the blogs we picked? Idk just thinking out loud. 🌸

Thinking out loud is something I do a lot of. Many ideas get tossed around and many of them go nowhere, but some end up being great.

I kind of like the idea of listing the payout amount to see the effect....but fear it might send the wrong message. While adding to the post rewards is important it's not the only thing that those visiting the posts can add. The comments add a ton of value too and don't want people to think if they can't move the payout value they aren't helping by visiting posts. Might be something to think about to use in some way for a future contest...now you have me thinking ;) .

The best part of @pifc is the opening of people's eyes to the importance of sharing something interesting that you have found with other people. Steemit has no inbuilt discovery, and so it is possible (almost assured) that you will miss out on authors, just because you will never see them. Bring able to write about someone you have found, gives the other person more exposure to a different network of accounts. Exposure is the key ingredient that is missing from the Steemit experience, @pifc goes a good way to helping overcome this problem.

There really needs to be a better way to find content that you find of interest then is currently available. Glad we can serve to bring forward some quality content each week and look forward to seeing thing keep growing.

I think what you're doing is awesome. It's definitely helped me out and I appreciate what you're doing.
I don't think you really need to change anything because I believe it's well thought out and the whole idea behind it is simple, pay it forward.

Tagging @rentmoney , @jondoer123 , and @eaglespirit because they have been around a little longer and are much smarter in the way of Steemit

Have to say I love the name! Thanks for your thoughts and for tagging in a few people.

Thank you too

thank you witty as i didnt know about dark’s initiative. im honored that im one of the few you mentioned sweet friend.

I really like the idea behind the PIFC. It is a lot of fun to go out and look for people to introduce to this great group. @sadiajahan22, @bmotives, @el-nailul, @rajat1802, @shaheerbari, @stephanieo, @VeteranforCrypto, @herryazmi11 are the people I have featured in my entries and I hope a few of them stop by to tell us how it went for them.

I know one thing that is hard for me is keeping up with the voting. I can't split my vote so just keeping up with the groups I am in and then trying to vote for mine people and the contest page my vote gets drained really fast before I can even really go and look at all the great stuff people add. This is just a fact for those of us at lower sp numbers. I am not sure of a way to fix this but I really do want to try to start voting for more people we feature.

I would also like to see the names of the people we have featured to avoid doing them again unless we want to allow that if they are still low and making good content.

One thing I might like to see us do more of is try to get the people we add into the discord group. I know a lot join but I really feel that is what makes this special in the long run. Is getting a good group that will follow you.

I was also featured once for a ulog I did about going to the zoo. It was very nice to be added along with the fun I had talking to new people it was at the time a high payout for me. And was one of reason I pulled the trigger on buying some steem and starting to be more active with the pay it forward discord and contest.

Voting power is an issue no matter what. The more SP you have the higher the vote you want to give out and more people you want to help...well at least for those of us that are Pay It Forward Minded. So I'm sure I could lease you 10k SP and you would still run low...just like I would....but it would be a fun problem to have!

Love to hear that you purchased Steem and became more active due to the contest. That is a HUGE testimonial! Thank you for sharing.

first of all , i would like to thank you personally for featuring me on this contest. It is a great thing for me, and honestly I have received tremendous amount of support since then. I will submit my own this week 20, as a way to thank to all of support I have had @stever82

I feel your pain regarding voting power @stever82, and if you don't have the "magic slider", it's even worse! Whenever my voting power is low, I continue to comment, often apologizing for not being able to upvote, and never has anyone made me feel badly about that! In fact, it's just the opposite and people tell me that a well thought out comment is worth more to them than any upvote.

So, my advice, keep commenting and upvote only when you can :)

thanks that is good advice.

You're welcome @stever82 😅

What PIFC is doing right:
Encouraging people to visit, vote, and comment on featured posts, encouraging those who were featured to find and feature others both organically (because they are appreciative) and through incentives.

What I might change:
I didn't find this contest until I was featured. I don't know how you might change this, but maybe if contestants also used the tags where their quality content was found (art, philosophy, life?) it could help newbies engaging with the platform to find you.

My POV:
For contest, I have entered the contest only once. I was also featured once, and that's what encouraged me to do it. A great experience on both sides.

Thanks for your thoughts. Sadly there really isn't much of a way to add exposure without attempting to reach the trending page which is a massive investment and then honestly I don't even think you gain much exposure.

If everyone was to resteem the contest page each week then maybe we would gain more free exposure, which is the only type we can afford...lol.

You were late by a bit for the test, but you gave good thoughts so getting the 100% vote all the same.

Thanks! And yeah also widespread exposure probably does not bring the right people.

In looking for a valid criticism, that's the best I could come up with. You've got a great project here!

hey dark,

looks like you received a nice dele, i just had one for 30 days from whatsup and the goal wa sto manually curate. if this is also a part of your goal related to a dele or just a way to give back its all good jn my book. i tend to join quite a bit of contests to upvote fellow contestants, the group in charge and many otter curation projects that do not get attention. there are many other “mom and pop” groups that need assistance. other than that, i also go around he introduce me pages and upvote with tipu and many other pay it forward ideas like sbi.
anything done to make steemit better and helpful for new people or those struggling to stay is a good thing. you are doing terrific! nice to “know” another fellow giver.

blessings,
eagle spirit

I lease the delegation and have for some time now. It's a great way to reward people with a higher vote then I can afford to give otherwise.

Would love to have you join us for a week and see what you think of the contest.

I like what @pifc is doing - it's selfless, inviting new users to make friends and see the good in steemit. That's powerful. I wish it was around when I first joined. I think the #introduceyourself movement is irrelevant nowadays. If people want to gain solid ground here, then they should definitely start with their involvement with @pifc. All you people who make it happen, the judges, the curators, the sponsors - you are the future of steemit as a community platform.

Building a community is what it's all about. Real people helping other real people. Keep the bots, scammers, and drama queens out of what we are doing as much as possible and focus on quality content and growth. Thanks for all you have done to help our growth!

I think this is a great contest and, so far, it's been really well organised. I see this contest as a way to give an incentive to new users, who might be on their way out of the platform as soon as they arrived, if they can't get a decent exposure to their posts.

That's why I usually pick such great entries. These are the people that we need in this platform. Creative, talented and original.

The more quality there is... the better the future of SteemIt is.

I don't have any suggestion to improve it. I think the reduction from 3 to 2 featured bloggers has helped, as it easier for people to focus only on 2 posts to vote and comment on, instead of 3.

Personally, I think this contest has enough incentives and benefits and I don't think adding more will be good. With too many incentives, we might attract some gold diggers who'll be posting just to get the rewards, and that's not good for the contest.

The only thing I don't like is that, usually, your posts appear while I'm sleeping... but it's not your fault that we're living in different continents. So, keep up with the good work. 😃

I've wondered what would happen if we added more rewards and had the exact same concern. Actually lowered the bounty a while back from 3 down to 2 and it cut out the "bounty hunters" from spamming the contest.

Thanks for your efforts!

You got a great idea of twisting the #payitforward contest a little bit with this opinion contest! Here is what I think...

I like the #payitforward initiative because...

  1. Just the thought that its goal is to help boost up newbies is already enough reason for this project to be a great initiative. Add to that the fact that there is nothing in return for the sponsors and judges in spite of spending time and effort to go through all the entries (more to the judges).

  2. It fosters the sense of camaraderie and social responsibility by helping others. We never know how things are done or going in other ends of the globe. This is an avenue of getting to know people who we can change each other's lives.

  3. It fosters communication, connection and thus the real sense of social networking by directing people to others' post.

  4. Aside from plain socializing over the network, it enables avenues for people to learn more from others - different culture, values, belief, or even perspective. As I remember @headchange once mentioned that her joining the contest is an eye-opener to her. I agree, and I believe this is also the case for some if not all participants.

  5. This only not help the featured bloggers but also the curators because it gives the curators an idea of what to post. That spares the curators from thinking about a topic for at least once a week.

How to improve it? I do not have the details in mind on how to do it but I am looking at a possible challenge when the community grows. If the participants would significantly increase, I see a lot of time needed for the curators (add to the judges) to be visiting each featured blogs and such amount of time can be a challenge. I speak for my experience last week when there were 19 entries and I really had to squeeze in going through the blogs. I believe there was even a week when I was not able to visit all of them. I once thought of scheduling but that will hamper the timing when the blogs to be featured are out and when the curators are available. Maybe other participants can give their thoughts about this.

To my featured bloggers, your opinions are being sought. Your inputs will help the project do better.
@andyalaby, @daniel4real, @island-girl, @alexbiojs (though I already saw your comment here), @febemarie25, @jazzhero, @gabbynhice.

Thank you!

Managing Voting Power is always a challenge. If you are having an issue I might suggest not voting on all of the featured blog posts, but leave a comment.

As for total time invested, there is no question on a week like last week it's hard to reach everyone. What the Judges do is 1/2 of the entries to keep it manageable. If this grows future the idea for scaling is to split into 1/3's or even 1/4's if needed. This will allow for all Judges to be able to visit a manageable amount of entries and give proper attention. When we split the entries in half it really helped the Judges with their time commitment as it was getting close to burn out level.

As for my time, well that is another story. We will likely look into a way to allow the judges to use the @pifc account to do some of their visits. Not exactly sure how this will work yet, but it will likely be required at some point or I will end up burning out.

I guess that explains why there were not much comments or upvotes on all the entries when I had my rounds for last week. I am not sure how the entries were split but if it is something like picking entries to be judged while others are left out, that may not sound so ideal. The left out ones may be more qualified and yet were not given attention.

How about splitting the entries equally among the judges and the judges use score cards? Like if there are 19 entries and four judges, three of them get five entries and the fourth judge gets four. Then when all of them are done, someone (maybe you as the contest host) consolidates their score card results, do a tabulation and come up with the best among all 19 entries. I am not sure how time and effort will impact the judges but I think this is better to ensure that all entries are given attention.

It's 2 Judges on Evens and 2 on Odds and has been this way for probably 8+ weeks. There just was no way for the judges to keep up with visiting all of the entries. We try to then pick 2 even and 2 odd entries for the Judges choice, but sometimes if a judge visited more then just their 1/2 (which happens a good amount) then they might pick from any they visited.

Each judge picks their own choice 100% on their own. This helps spread out who wins as each judges had their own opinions on quality and what they enjoy reading. By letting each pick who they will be awarding the SBI (which they pay for) it adds to the variety of winners. There have been many times that some of the Judges Choice winners are ones I's place in the middle of the pack at best...but they just happened to write about topics I'm not interested it.

Hope that all makes sense.

BTW, last week I don't think that knircky left many messages and I know that at least 1 judge was very far behind in visiting the posts. So that effect when the comments come in. Plus I worked over 80 hours last week so my time was severely limited and while I read the posts there were a number I didn't have time to comment on. This week is shaping up to be much the same as will next week. After that things get a little more normal for me....well hopefully they do.

I don't mean to pry for any explanation from the judges as to why they did or did not do this or that. I fully understand you guys are doing it on your own accord and even personal fund. I was just trying to suggest what may work better and still cover all entries.

Now that you mentioned about judges having their own opinions, how about having a set of criteria for everyone to use instead of each of them having their own? I think that is basic in every contest.

I've been featured by @lady-idra last week, I've joined steemit in April and I'm still struggling to find my bearings in this ocean. I read about the @pifc Curation Contest days before but I must admit I had no clue about its purpose. Having received at least 4 new comments of steemians clearly stating that they found me through this curation contest, I can only confirm that it has worked for me, it has helped me getting more exposure, more upvotes and definitely cleared up some grey areas on how the curation works, here on steemit.
I'm actually thinking to pick up the challenge and forward an entry myself... :-)

If you could share what wasn't clear that would be really helpful.

Glad that your being featured helped out your post and look forward to seeing your entry!

I believe the "Pay It Forward Curation Contest" post is laid out quite clearly and rules are easy to follow.
I wouldn't have had any problem if I wasn't confused about the real meaning of curation, since curation reward is paid out as a consequence of upvoting, while resteeming, which is more like pointing out interesting content, is not classified as curation (?)..... or at least not rewarded.
Ok, maybe I'm still a little confused... :D

it is something people need to see and involved, the reason is one and only one; this PIFC community has done tremendous help to minnow for better visibility and recognition. I am happy to part of this, while I can develop both my English skill and Curation skill. I encourage @porters and @matthewthonyit to take part of this community.

I think we need to help this community to grow stronger by encourage more people to be involved in this PIFC to build positive atmosphere on steem platform. It not to say PIFC is not strong but only a hope for stronger and stronger community in the future. Think positive, no matter how small our contribution is, but it will help this community.

I have felt this community as a home!, Keep going and do the best for the future @thedarkhorse, you are the man with honor!

And we are very happy you are part of our community!

I have to thank @cicisaja and @freedomshift, those amazing friend of us brought me in and i saw this as a cozy home @thedarkhorse

Hi, @thedarkhorse.
I took part to the contest only once, I did find it well organised and at the moment I cannot see fault to it.
I am planning an entry for this week too (time allowing), I was thrilled when my work was selected by @trincowski and I want to share that thrill when possible. So, if I may say, it's all good for me but If anything should come up I'll keep you posted.

I can only Thank You for creating the opportunity

Thank you for taking a minute to comment. Love hearing that someone who was featured is looking into joining as a curator. Look forward to seeing your picks!

:)

hi. it's great.

  1. I was wondering is there any list with all featured bloggers from all the entries since the first week. So that we could avoid duplicates. Recently I was gonna feature @macoolette but then accidentally discovered that she has been already featured.
  2. Also I have a question. If a person's posts get about 200 upvotes, but the $ amount of all his posts is under 0.5 $ every time, could he been considered as a candidate to PIF contest's entry?
  1. We don't mind the same person being featured again, but don't want to see the past list used as a cheat sheet of people to feature. There are a few people who have been featured a number of times and with rare exception it's by different people...heck sometimes the same post gets featured by 2 people.
With that said in our discord room there is a list that has been put together. @tryskele or @wolfhart can help direct you to it if you leave a message in general chat.

  2. 50 cent rewards with a ton of votes just means they buy votes. The number of upvotes in itself really doesn't matter as much as the reward size. Honestly would like people to focus on those earning less then say a couple dollars for the most part.

Thanks for sharing my new friend @thedarkhorse..... Of course, i upvoted, you are awesome.Good to see talents like you here on steemit. I am a female pianist and i do piano covers you can check my channel out @promisevictor.......keep steeming dear.

Cool I am here
