The letter to the Philippians teaches us that those who fear the Lord and persevere guard their hearts: "Stand firm in the Lord in this way" Philippians 4:1, then the apostle continues: "The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.", Philippians 4:5-7.
To guard the heart is to avoid the destructive thoughts that divide the soul, reason always looks to the good. The book of proverbs explains: "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it", Proverbs 4:23.
We live in a world given over to sin, and there is nothing more important than taking care of ourselves from day-to-day frustrations, preventing negative emotions from dominating our thoughts and thus being able to live fully. When we cannot expect anything good from others, we become stressed and the body suffers the consequences, a quiet inner life increases life expectancy.
Living with spiritual peace in the heart is one of the most important fruits of the spirit (Galatians 5:21-23), knowing how to forgive is one of the most important gifts. One of the keys to guarding the heart is to make the love of God bear fruit through constancy in the word, the fear of God is the path to spiritual enlightenment.
The love of Charity explains the bible to us, forgives and does not take into account the damage received: "Charity is patient, charity is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs", 1 Corinthians 13:4.
