So I have just been trying out and checking out peepeth.
First off I think it is a very pretty website and overall great app.
The user experience is awesome, the site pretty and overall everything is slick.
I would not invest into the project however and there are the following reasons why:
The app is a simple clone of twitter. twitter is awesome and it is never wrong to copy success. However there needs to be reason for an app to exist and a copy is not a good reason.
the user experience is worse due to the blockchain. The website only runs with ETH, so safari does not work. Chrome is a possibility in conjunction with Metamask. Every time you want to do something you have to pay, to put it on the blockchain. That is insanely annoying and unless fees on Eth go down to 0.001 or less, who wants to pay for every tweet they make.
It costs to create an account and it cost to create a tweet.
This is a great example why Steem is still King to me. Steem has used the blockchain to create a truly new app and incentive structure. Maybe I do not know how peepeth really works or what the reason for people to join would be.
For me any blockchain or token project needs to have the following criteria to be interesting:
- Is it a new application or functionality that the world needs?
- does the token and blockchain create value that we otherwise could not?
- is there a good toke and economic structure?
For me peepeth would be a "No" in all of these question, while steem has a clear "Yes" in all thee.
I think we steemians need to work on the issues that the steem ecosystem has and be vigilant as competition is on the horizon.
With @steem-bounty we are doing our part to enhance the steem ecosystem so that it can go stronger and more valuable. Steem Bounty lets you add contest rewards to posts. We thus create a new incentive layer on steem that works independently for everyone regardless how much SP we have. We hope this will help all, but especially minnows to get rewards and value out of steem.
Tell me your opinion
What do you think about peepeth and social media on ethereum. And what do you think needs to be done to make steem grow more and become more valuable?

Thank you very much for your attention and we hope you will vote for us as witness!
In order to do so you can go to:

And enter the "steem-bounty" account into the text field and click vote.
Or use steem-connect to vote directly for us as Steem witness!
I think one way to make steem better would be to create a marketplace on steem blockchain where people can buy and sell with Steem
....and thanks for telling about Peepeth; I would not try it :)

That would be a great development if a Steem-based marketplace on the blockchain is created where we can do shopping with Steem :P
Nice!

I think Steemit is the best. It has so many opportunities for everyone, for people from every walk of life. I have seen lot of awesome communities that are there to help people grow; I also saw lot of volunteers who give their SP just to help people grow; it is very unique. I just found about another site for fundraising projects built on Steemit blockchain, that s very inspiring. I am sharing the link so others may benefit. https://fundition.io

Thanks for bringing up this copycat of Twitter. I agree a blockchain must have some originality and real world use to have economic value. Steemit has the first mover advantage in the social media blockchain space and has its own unique incentive structure, it will likely be king and here to stay :)

This right here is what stopped me from even getting started:
If I want to tweet, which I don't, there is a free platform with a massive audience. Why would I pay for a smaller audience? Getting in early for building an audience has value, but IMO I'd much rather invest my time on steemit.
Edit: And I completely agree with your criteria for blockchain and token projects. Way to many are being created just because someone can, but they add no value.

"free" is still key to massive adoption. with the price of BTC (and in turn ETH) going upwards, paying for a service upfront is a big deterrent.
this is why STEEM still shines.
the only advantage of peepeth over steem is the aspect of approval and activation of accounts. other than that.. nada.

This post was very valuable to me because I hadn't heard of peepeth. I'm curious your take on @Appics

If you take the three questions above to me they are all a "no". I dont really get the point of appics. I hope I am wrong but it seems like an app with lots of marketing. Maybe they can make the app be worth though, but id be hesitant to invest and I did not.

I don't want to lol (too lazy right now) but I believe a valid argument could be made for a "yes" on all three questions.
F it, I'll try my hand quickly.
"Is it a new application or functionality that the world needs?"
Need is a strong word when we are talking about social media, but look at Facebook's market cap.
"does the token and blockchain create value that we otherwise could not?"
Appics would be a stand alone instagram like app rewarding users with their SMT for proof of brain. IMO Steepshot cannot be considered stand alone thus adding great value to the world.
"is there a good toke and economic structure?"
It's been a few months since I have read Appics white paper, but isn't the token and economic structure the same as Steem? So @btc-dialog you say @appics gets a "no" to this question yet you invest your time writing a comment on Steem?

Thanks for the review. That site sounds pretty bad. lol At least Facebook is free to post. I think there are one or two somewhat legit competitors to steemit. I can't remember what they are though.

You are right @knircky I have also checked it, It is pretty good & simple everything is placed perfectly but it's a copy of the twitter somewhat & yes the twitter is best than peepeth ether it's not works on the blockchain. So that the steemit is better than every other social media platform to monetize the content, share the content & so many uses.
& one more bad about the peepeth is to pay eth for tweet. Very bad experience with it. Steem always better than it in every important points such like fees, fast blockchain free to share content.
Steem was Winner, Now it's Winner & It will be winner too in future.

They're going backwards. This is one reason I don't see Ethereum succeeding long term, at least not in the social media space. Steem is basically the only blockchain with a foot in that door. And social media is REALLY important, because the first blockchain based social media that dominates that space will also dominate the conversation about which crypto is best.

Controlling the conversation is really important with emerging markets like crypto. With advertising restrictions on so many major social media sites it will make sites like steemit more valuable to those promoting their coins. Sadly that means lots of scam artists will be coming here to pitch their shit coins, but the good ones will also be trying to get the word out which benefits us if we are paying attention.

I agree, the "free" aspect of Steem is a market maker. Any platform that has a fee to post or comment really doesn't make sense unless the fee is at the dust level. We all know that the fees go up and down as well. Just didn't make a whole lot of sense. ETH, BTC platforms that wasn't to break into this social market need to address that our it's a non starter. Do I dare ask? What about EOS? I ask honestly as I still have not duh deep into it yet.

Any social platform built on the blockchain technology which requires one to pay before registration and to use it, is not truly decentralized, they are giving users reasons to remain on the popular centralized platforms which they use for free. Another social platform called EosDac also require Etherum before registration can be done but not fully operational, these are discussion as more people cannot fit in due to none availability of the Eth coin in their wallet because they can't afford it.
Steem has set a standard with two options, either you are a miner or an investor. Either way, you earn in the process while using the platform for free with no hidden charge.
As everyone awaits SMT to be launched and which Appics are one of those apps waiting for it to actualize it aim. Hopefully the launching of SMT will increases the value of Steem and as more cryptocurrency exchangers continue to list steem in its trading. The value will increase.
Thanks for the Steem-bounty

From my little analysis, have come a know How effective steem is, and of recent i tried to make few posts about steem global adoption. Some persons who never believe now saw reasons to after reading the post.
To be candid, I wad never a fan of cypto not until i encountered Steem. Steem has the potential to rule the world.
New members aren't charge on registration.
It gives room for her users to research before making a post. In general steem is educative.
It even create new avenue to meet new people in different part of the world.

This greatly disqualifies peepeth on my personal list of crypto apps cause of the inabilities and limitations of it. I would pay to make a post!!! So I wouldn’t even join.
Yeah steem blockchain will continue to grow.
• Steem is rated #1 in technology in China . This makes perfect sense because DPOS is the best currently available technology for mass adoption
• China ranks Steem #2 token (Official Chinese Ministry)
Here is how we can make a difference for Steemit future. Suggested by @socky
#1
We need to let Poloniex know that there are many people that want STEEM and SBD wallets fixed on their exchange.
#2

We need to let HitBTC know that there are many people that want STEEM and SBD wallets fixed on their exchange.
#3
Follow this link to an article He wrote about listing STEEM and SBD on Cobinhood. It explains (with pictures) how He filled out the form.

We have to let Binance see the usability in our steem and get it listed on binance

@knircky has set 2.000 STEEM bounty on this post!
What is a bounty exactly?
A bounty is money sent to a post to be distributed to the users commenting on it. It provides a way to reward users directly and works in addition to the steem/sbd they receive from the blockchain. It works independently of SteemPower.
You create a bounty by sending any amount of sbd/steem to @steem-bounty together with a post-url in the memo.
How can I earn a bounty Users are then competing for the bounty by writing their answers to the post in comments that will achieve upvotes from the community and especially the bounty creator. The money of the bounty gets distributed to all top level comments of the post at the same time when the post is paid out (7 Days after it was written). How much everyone gets depends on the votes the comments received. The sender of the bounties votes are weighted higher so that she decideds where 80% of the bounty money goes and all other votes determine the rest.@steem-bounty does all of this for you automatically. You can use this service to automatically pay out a challenge, ask a hard question or simply to reward the people that interact with you.

Can you imagine peepeth coming at a time when steemit has opened our eyes to the reality of blockchain.
People are running from facebook not because you pay to register but because it does not share the benefits across for every users, now you are creating one that would still be sucking my hard earned money with every contents created. Smile
Please, hold on with it, we are good with steemit.
STEEMIT WINS HERE TOO.....

Never heard of pepeth, I looked into it now and it seems they won't go far by asking for money right away. Cryptocurrency is popular, but not enough for the masses to get into it yet. They need to make it look a lot more simple and start marketing it more for it to become a thing like twitter/facebook.

I kind of agree that making users use a website by paying for doing every activity on it is something that will pull the users away. They might be trying to build a platform which people use wisely by spending wisely, but that will take away a large chunk of users.
Steem looks much better.
