Do we really need pennies? How will they help? Did you know pennies are worth less than how much it costs to make it? Pennies should be abolished from the United States. Why they should be abolished is that they take up space, there useless, and there a waist of money.
First, pennies take up space because of how much money it is its only one cent an usually a bunch of pennies are in jars and sometimes on the street. In the article “Penny Wise, or 2.4 Cents Foolish? The Canadian Finance Minister, Jim Flaherty said in a speech that “ Pennies take to much space on our dressers at home” a persusuave Government then added “ we often store them in jars throw them away in water fountains, or refuse them as change”.
Next, there useless and have no purpose. The penny is equal to one cent and a lot of cents can equal a different coin like if there were 25 cents is equal to a quarter and the penny is only good for if you need 4 or less cents. From the article “ Is the Penny Worth It? It tells how United States Department of Defense does not use pennies and the stores there they have a rounding system they use. According to Chris Ward a spokesman for airforce and army exchange service he said “pennies are to heavy and aren't cost effective to ship” US congress considered taking the penny out of currency system
Finally, there a waist of money. In the article “Penny Wise, or 2.4 Cents Foolish? Shows they waste money. In the United States, it costs 1.6 Canadian cents to make a penny according to canadian government. “From that Mr Velde said that from the standpoint at economics that's a waste of money”. Even if you add pennies together there not a lot of money. Tax payers in 2011 lost 60.2 million dollars making pennies and many years after that they lost money.
In conclusion the penny should not be produced anymore, it costs to much money for it and it costs more money then the actual penny itself. Pennys won't help us because its not worth producing we lose money from making it. And if we go to a store and there's product for 99 cents then we should just use a rounding system like what the United States Department of Defense did, they would round up to or round to the closest amount of money needed. Although the penny can help with needing 1 to 4 cents, it's still not worth it to keep producing the penny with the amount of money taxpayers lost in 2011 which was 60.2 million dollars.
