“One must be poor to know the luxury of giving.”
― George Eliot
I remember Penelope opening mail, and saying, Edmund? And I thought to myself, mail for me? I never get anything. Who would it be? I figured she was playing around. But there it was, a sticky poking out from one of the books, with my name written on it. I skipped a beat. I smiled and calmly reached out for the book. I cracked it open, and I saw your business card smoothly landing to the ground. And I thought to myself; this is a beautiful gift. Thank you so much, Jules.
I Want to share and give you a gift as well; it may not be tangible but, they are very real here in cyberspace.
It's called Trick Baby, a soulful movie: it's a 70s movie about class, race and biracial complexities, gentrification, about funk and blues, and about love.
I hope you enjoy it.
And the second one is so dear to me. It's an oldie from Otis Redding, called For Your Precious Love. He and like many blues artist are all heterodoxal musicians. Because they know that there is no melody or harmony without dissonance, without minor keys said brother Cornel West. Many connect the song to a loved one, but to me it goes beyond that. The Precious love to fight for justice, and for equality, for the planet. The suffering of our people are the very minor keys we need to emphasize to make a change.
I am sorry I wrote a lot, but what do you expect? I'm a C. Thank you for taking your time to read this. I am eternally grateful for the amazing gift; I will read and cherish it.
I would love to continue talking to you: exchange thoughts, books, ideas, quotes, and life, if you don't mind?
