The apostle Paul returns in his first letter to the Corinthians to use the triple division of man in body, soul and spirit: "Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly", 1 Corinthians 3:1. In the worldly people the concupiscence and the desires of the flesh prevail; on the other hand, in the spiritual people the desires of the spirit prevail: "For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh; but those who live according to the spirit, set their minds on the things of the spirit. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so." Romans 8: 5-7
The apostle Paul reminds the Corinthian community that divisions among church members are works of the flesh: "I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans?", 1 Corinthians 3:2-3
In communion and in the true spiritual life, we are all collaborators with God, the meaning of human life is to increase the gifts: "For we are co-workers in God's service; you are God's field, God's building", 1 Corinthians 3:9
There should be no among those who teach feelings of superiority but should cultivate spiritual poverty: "Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become "fools" so that you may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: ´He catches the wise in their craftiness´", 1 Corinthians 3:18-19.
