Rooting cuttings in the refrigerator!?

in permaculture •  6 years ago

When the only time available to you to collect cuttings is fall and you don't have a hot house or other warm spot to put them in soil to root, it's a bad situation as a cold winter would usually kill the fresh cuttings.

We have a simple solution for you, now tested with hubby @bobydimitrov !

Just wrap your cuttings in a piece of cloth or kitchen paper, water it until wet but not dripping and place it in a tight seal box or a plastic bag inside the refrigerator, in the lowest shelf.

This way the cuttings will survive the winter and you can plant them to root in the spring.

What is more interesting however is that after a couple of months, the roots may start to develop in the fridge! So come spring, you will have already rooted cuttings and jump start the season!

Great, huh? 😊
