I've been looking into a "nut" tree to place in my yard for biodiversity sake and it's edible! Do you know how these react to heavy pruning? Thank you for the post! Very well written and informative. I had no idea of the possible uses.

They are often used as hedges or even coppiced right to the ground. I don't think a little pruning is going to hurt them.
One thing that might possibly happen and I am just speculating is that heavy pruning may "anger" the plant and it might send out suckers. For me suckers are great! it is like getting free plants. If you want a tidy yard though it could be a problem.
