The righteous quest for wood chips continues...

in permaculture •  6 years ago

This morning, I am exhausted. I've now been up almost 27 hours as I start writing this post. Sundays/Mondays are like that due to my work schedule.

This morning, I went off in search of a tree service company. I had seen their address, and figured I'd go look, and had no luck. When I thought I had struck out, I saw another giant truck from the same company as the one I stopped at last Wednesday. I stopped and gave this crew my address. When they asked how many loads, I said "one, two, five, all of em!"

Last night I did some math. Well, I asked Google to do it for me. I figure it'd take 815 cubic yards of mulch to mulch our property a foot deep. So anything less than that, we have a use for. Anything more, and we'll have problems I reckon.

I've never seen that much of anything, but it's about 407 pickup truck loads. Sounds pretty good.

I got home and got to catch an uppener in the act. The ones perpetrating the uppening are none other than...

...the wroms!

I interrogated the subject as to the whereabouts of his family, how involved he was in the underground operation, and who their supporters are. After he proved silent, I buried him alive.

I just realized that 815 cubic yards is a pile bigger than our house.

That's excessive, especially considering Melissa likes grass all of a sudden. I'll remind her of that next time she uses it as an excuse not to go outside with me.

With that in mind, 400 cubic yards is perfectly fine. Probably way more than enough.

I'm going to bed. I'm almost up to twenty eight hours now.

Have a good Monday!

Nate

Hah yeah getting woodchips can be an awesome but overwhelming experience. I usually call tree removal companies after a show storm and they have lots of free wood chips they will deliver. Ive had a couple ask me to pay for them but its rare and Ive always had luck just calling till I find one that is willing to drop off wood chips.

What is your GHSC tag for?

The hunt for chips will continue today! I'm gonna make these guys so sick of seeing me that they bury my whole property in chips!

Ah okay thanks for the info! Just found their intro post: https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@ghscollective/x637v0nj

Nice, I have plans on contacting my local tree companies too. I need to cover my yard in mulch and planning on using wood chips to solve some erosion problems im dealing with.

Yeah, they'll help with that! I'm gonna use it everywhere. My garden beds really need mulching, and I plan on filling my swales and ditches with chips too.

@nateonsteemit

Nice, that break down back into the soil and give good nutrients. Almost as good as a hugelkultur.

Thanks! I think we're making progress. Eventually, one of those crews will bring us a load of chips. Until then, I think a daily driver to find them may prove rewarding.
