Permaculture Principes in Nature

in permaculture •  6 years ago

In my first Permaculture course I learned that in dry areas sunken growing beds are better than raised beds.

It makes sense. We all know that water always flows down. A sunken bed can catch all the water, be it from rain or dew, available and plants can utilize it.

Raised beds on the other hand, dry out much faster.

On my walk today, I saw that principal beautifully illustrated.

I was walking on a dirt road here in north-eastern Arizona and was admiring all the plants coming up in what looks like impossible soil to grow anything in.

But there, right in front of me, was a beautiful green patch. Sure enough, there was a depression in the road. Just a small one, but it made all the difference.

What kind of climate are you living in? What is your preferred method of growing your plants?
