Compact Permeculture, Extreme gardening, Composting, Seed saving and Sharing.

Grow a garden. I am dedicated to growing and sharing and getting other people to grow food using heirloom seeds and non-hybrid, FYI hybrid seeds saved will not look like the mother plant. Start small, grow a bean in your window, it doesn’t matter where you live, you can be in the New York inner city surrounded by concrete but I promise you if you grow herbs on your window sill they will be vibrant and robust cause plants love C02 . I promise you, if you plant one you will be inspired to plant more.

If you like to make spaghetti sauce grow oregano, thyme, coriander even if you have no green thumb these are hard to kill and are delicious.  I live in the suburban outskirts, I have maybe 1/8th of an acre to work with and it’s more than enough for now because I actually have a day job. I need everybody to go outside and meet their neighbors because mine are amazing and yours might well be too.

We are planning to get chickens next spring and whatever plants that grows over our fences is fair game, we are actually in discussion of opening up fences to accommodate each other’s gardening needs. There is a wave flowing through our communities, People are hungry for change and it happens with one of us a time. I am always learning. I will post a list below of books that are essential if you feel in in your heart you want to be more self-sufficient and also an asset to your community.

Looking around I know that I can’t change people, I can only change myself. The amazing bit is that I have inadvertently changed my world for the better every time I save or plant a seed.

Books to read, and I have to say this is by no means all the books I have read absorbed and own but they are my most dog eared go to, aside from the internet.

Even if you don’t have a lot of land this gives you an overview and can help you decide how and what to plant where taking into consideration the kind of land forest or swampy or maybe dry, the whole idea of this book is to work with nature rather than against.

Every one of Joel Saltins books is gold, I must say what I took away from this, is that I’m just going to do my own thing for as long as I can and get others on board because our fate depends on food availability our adaptability and to not expect government help. (I would actually suggest to avoid looking to the government for help)
