A Short Story about a Long Life

in person •  5 years ago

The man was totally depressed. Standing on the side of the street, we were talking through the window of my car.

His wife had left him. I had no job. Every day was a burden, and worse, he was a burden to the world. In his own words, it was "totally useless."

I tried to cheer him up with words of hope, but he was firm in his belief. I left him with some optimistic thinking, I turned around and walked away, happy to move on to something more cheerful.

Suddenly the man shouted, "Stop!" I slammed the brakes right at the moment a moving truck passed at high speed. And I said to him: "If you had not yelled at me, at this moment I would be dead. A few seconds ago you felt useless with no purpose in life, and now you have saved my life! From this moment, every good deed I do your account will also be credited. " His face lit up, as the many months of depression vanished.

There is a sunrise, even the darkest nights pass. No one knows what the next moment will bring and to deny hope is to deny the fact - constantly demonstrated - that, "This will also happen."l.jpg
