The joke "Man is a herd animal" justifies itself in many ways. On the one hand, to define oneself as a really existing, unique individual with specific qualities, abilities, a person needs the opinion of other people, i.e. communication in principle.
On the other hand, the personality is largely formed in the process of ontogenesis under the influence of the historical and cultural context and the social environment surrounding it. Both of these processes occur continuously and interconnected, responding to the basic needs of the individual for change and self-improvement.
However, neither the person himself, nor the people who are with him in short or newly formed connections, are not able to notice and appreciate the whole process of personality transformation.
In addition, a person needs to receive not only a definition of himself, but also a positive assessment of his qualities - it is important for him to please other people.
Indeed, it is mutual sympathy that prompts future spouses to choose each other from the entire set of possible applicants, expecting the continuation of positive confirmation of themselves in family relationships.
Thus, the family performs, first of all, the function of creating an environment for growth, development, self- and mutual improvement of its constituent individuals. Each family member, in turn, does everything possible, as he understands it, in order to preserve the family as a social group in which he is unconditionally accepted.
Accordingly, as they change, they interact with other people in a new way, enriching the experience of their own inside and outside family relationships.
However, often in the life of the family system there comes a period when the opinions and aspirations of family members, their needs as separate "psycho-biological-social systems", do not coincide with each other or with the tasks of the family in the whole.
These can be crises of both the natural cycle of development of the family as a biological and social system, and those caused by changes in the requirements for the family and its members from the surrounding context in a given region, country or around the world.
