Hey there!
Today I'd like to share with you one of the most important lessons I've learned over the last half-century.
Yep, it's taken me a long time, but it's of essential importance.
Stop trying to change people.
You see, it doesn't work.
Each of us has our own internal framework. Our personality. Our strengths. Our weaknesses. It's pretty much an innate structure that will last with us for our entire lives.
Sure, people change.
But here's the deal. You don't change them - you can't. Can they slowly change themselves over time? Maybe. Will life change them? Definitely.
However, the more energy you put into trying to change others, the less energy you'll have - with pretty much nothing to show for it.
So, as a business leader what plan is better?
Easy.
Play to people's strengths.
Instead of desperately trying to mold people into the idea that you have for what/who they should be, take stock of who they are and build on the positive qualities.
Let me give you an example.
I am quick learner. I'm a very strategic thinker and I'm really great at getting things off the ground.
But I am not by any means organized or disciplined.
Over the years, I've learned to be more organized and disciplined (at least some of the time) but it will never be who I am.
So, instead of struggling endlessly I try to be sure to have smart, organized and disciplined people around me. I play to my strengths and minimize my weaknesses.
And that's what you should do too!

Listen. Think. Do.
Wow, I really liked this story post @dennishlewis! I love how you turned around the concept about changing others into an example of how it applies to oneself. This helped me to understand the concept a whole lot better. Thanks.
