Last time we explored perception and judgment. Today we will cover Introversion/Extroversion and the Judgement/Perception preference.
Are you confused yet? I'll try harder.
The perception/Judgment combinations were:
- ST
- SF
- NF
- NT
The Introversion/Extroversion preference expands the scope of personality definition.
Introversion is a mental preference rather than a social behavior. A person who prefers introversion likes to consider the inner world of concepts and ideas. They do their best thinking when reflecting in the privacy of their mind.
Extroversion is a preference to the outer world of people and things. Action is a natural behavior for an extrovert. They are at their best when interacting with others.
The I/E preference is independent of the perception judgment combinations listed above.
To further add specifics to the process, we add the Judgment/Perception preference to the mix. This reflects primarily on the lifestyle choice of the individual. Only one of these processes my be used at a time. A parent may tolerate a child's tantrum for a while until they snap to judgment and say "ENOUGH".
An individual may keep their options open in a P state of mind as a matter of choice until all the facts are in before making a decision in the J mode. I know a man who will exist in the P preference until his wife forces him to make a decision.
A person who prefers to make decisions quickly is displaying a strong J preference.
So we have identified all of the specific personality markers:
- Introversion/Extroversion
- Sensory/iNtuitive
- Thinker/Feeler
- Judger/Perceiver
Each of these may be combined with any of the others to offer 16 possible personality mixes.
Next time we will walk through the process of identifying each alternative.
Now for the beauty:
