The Maimun Palace, sometimes called the Putri Hijau Palace, is the palace of the greatness of the Kingdom of Deli. This palace is dominated by yellow, the color of the greatness of the Malay kingdom. The construction of the palace was completed on August 25, 1888 AD, in the reign of Sultan Makmun al-Rashid Perkasa Alamsyah. Sultan Makmun is the eldest son of Sultan Mahmud Perkasa Alam, the founder of Medan.
Since 1946, the Palace is inhabited by the heirs of the Deli Sultanate. In certain times, in this palace often held performances of traditional Malay music. Typically, the performances are held in order to enliven the wedding party and other joy activities. In addition, twice a year, the Sultan of Deli usually held a gathering event between the big families of the palace. On every Friday night, the sultan's families held rawatib adat (a kind of wiridan family).
For visitors who come to the palace, they can still see the collections on display in the meeting room, such as photos of the sultan's family, old Dutch household furniture, and various types of weapons. Here, there is also a stump cannon that has its own legend. Medan people call this cannon with the cannon cannon.
The story of this cannon cannon has a bearing on Princess Green. Narrated, in the Kingdom of the Great East, live a beautiful princess, named Princess Green. He is called so, because his body emits a green color. He has two brothers, namely Mambang Yasid and Mambang Khayali. Once, there came the King of Aceh proposed Princess Green, however, this proposal was rejected by his two brothers. The king of Aceh became angry, then attacked the Greater Kingdom. King of Aceh successfully defeated Mambang Yasid. When the Aceh army was about to enter the palace to kidnap Princess Green, suddenly a miracle happened, Mambang Khayali suddenly turned into a cannon and fired indiscriminately. Due to constantly firing bullets towards the Aceh forces, the cannon was split in two. The front is found in the Surbakti area, in the Karo highlands, near Kabanjahe. While the back thrown into Labuhan Deli, then moved to the courtyard Maimun Palace.
Every day, the Palace is open to the public, except when there is a special ceremony.
