I posted about how I love my dog and that I have become a vegetarian, and a Steemian commented that she went vegetarian after getting her cat!
Our love for our pets can turn us into a better version of ourselves.
In our desire to fulfill their needs, we benefit right along with them. My dog Rocko, is a greyhound/husky mix who needs lot of exercise. By taking him for at least an hour long walk each day, I started to get in better shape. I also got a lot of fresh air and sunshine, and rain and even snow, and he kept me out of stores so I couldn't buy things I didn't need. He is also a great conversation piece when strangers approach during our walks as they always ask what type of dog he is.
In meeting his need for ATTENTION, I developed a bond with him, and he is a good buddy who is happy to see me when I come home. This adds to my life satisfaction.
In fulfilling his need for DISCIPLINE...er..uh, I'm still working on that one. He isn't the most trainable dog, maybe it's the breed, or I'm too soft on him. He is a big sweetie pie, but he will steal my muffin if I turn my back and then look at me with those big brown innocent eyes as if to say: "aw c'mon Mom, you know morning glory muffins are my fave." He also pulls on his leash as if he is a sled dog and I am the sled! Caesar Milan The Dog Whisperer wouldn't be too impressed!
Rocko can even talk. No really. He vocalizes to express his feelings. When he has had a fun day of going out driving with me and playing in the yard, he stretches out on his bed and makes contented groaning sounds. When we run around outside he says: "ra,ra,ra" as he runs by me to show how happy he is to play. Sometimes he makes a big yawn, and he makes a high pitched sound when he does because he really is a ham. That is his nickname too.
When he wants more water he stands beside his empty dish and looks up at me forlornly.
When I returned from a trip once, he jumped up and kissed me right on the lips!
When I am out of the house for too long, I miss him.
How about you? Do you have a special pet who you care about?
